What’s Up Weekend? 8 – 14 May

SHARE ME:

What a weekend ahead! I know we tend to say that – however this weekend we’ve got everything from impossibly fast booty-shaking Shangaan Electro from Nozinja to two tasty Spree-side open airs, er, and EUROVISION. It’s Party Zeit.

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

FREITAG

URBAN SPREE – Everybody loves it!

Before we go any further, hit either this, this or this. All three ideally.

That should do it.

SOOOO, I guess we’ll be seeing you at Urban Spree this Friday abend for Nozinja‘s German-debut? Doors at 20:00, DJ support from the Leisure System crew and DJ Zhao, and all for the bonkers prize of €6.50. Get working on those moves, this should be a special one.

SAMSTAG

EUROVISION FINAL – ÜBERALL – Everybody loves it! (What’s not to love)

YES! The ultimate annual spectacle of European pop ‘music’ is back and we’re bloody excited. This year’s contest is being held in Copenhagen, following Denmark’s victory in 2013, and after tonight’s second semi we’ll know who’s in the final this Samstag. Amongst so many treasures – 2014 seems to be full of weepy ballads -, so far we’re vibing Italy’s entry. Her words are a mystery, however – saucy.

AND: want to really do this properly? A few public options for this year’s viewing pleasure include: Freiluftkino (Kreuzberg), Monster Ronson’s (seek some inspiration for the karaoke after party) (Friedrichshain), Sonntags Club (Kreuzberg), Rauschgold, Grüner Salon (Mitte) and probably any Kneipe that has a TV.

SALON ZUR WILDEN RENATE – Bron loves it!

Returning to Berlin this weekend for what looks to be another marathon of delectable UK house and disco, are the much-loved Futureboogie crew – and it’s quite the posse they’re bringing with them. Known for party-starting prowess, the Bristol-based label & agency are back at Renate, where they’ve thrown a number of tasty parties in the past. This round sees Crazy P (dj set), Waifs & Strays, Christophe, Felix Dickinson and Futureboogie djs all making the journey to the DE – which paired with the ramshackle house party vibe of Renate sounds like a bloody good time to us. See you on the dancefloor.

SONNTAG

OBERHAFENKANTINE – Everybody loves it!

Hungover? Still partying? Fresh as a Gänseblümchen? Regardless of your state, there should be something for everyone at Word – Open Air für die gute Sache, this Sonntag. Running from 14:00 to 22:00, a number of locals have joined forces to provide a day of tasty drinks, saucy beats and clever words (via Notes of Berlin and Slam Poetry comps across the day) – with proceeds going towards educational programs for the less privileged in both Sri Lanka and Berlin (details on their event page, aber auf Deutsch). Tunes will be provided by Flexis (live), Wyn Davies (live), our friends at Nordic by Nature (dj) and more, while on the beverage front Our/Berlin will be keeping it boozey with Lemonaid and ChariTea providing a hydrating option for those with a eurovision hangover. We’ll be there, come and say hallo!

ELSE – Bron loves it!

Meanwhile, just over a 1km down the road you can indulge in a second dose of Futureboogie house and disco feel good for the wochenende with a little day soiree at Renate’s open air venture, Else. Home to quite a few vibey day fests in it’s debut last summer, this Spree-side dancefloor with it’s canopy of disco balls (we hope they’ve returned for 2014) should provide quite the location for this UK crew to keep you dancing through to the end of the weekend. Tunes will be again provided by Crazy P (dj set), Felix Dickinson and Futureboogie DJs, and they’ll also be joined by France’s Chloé. From midday, winding up around 22:00, and in the event that you’re crazy – the party will kick on afterwards at Renate too.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
