FKA Twigs, Tinashe, a 3-day Icelandic showcase and 24hours+ of finest house & techno in the big haus. This weekend (and next week) is more than sorted for genre-hopping musical greatness, treat yo self.
Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
DONNERSTAG – SAMSTAG
NEUE HEIMAT – Everybody loves it!
Following on from last year’s XJAZZ Festival in which Iceland was a partner, this weekend sees the DE-arm of the first Berlin X Reykjavik Festival by Extreme Chill & XJAZZ take place. Mouthful – ein bisschen. Worth checking out – absolutelyyyy. Running for three days in both cities, the collaboration aims to showcase music from the partnering Stadt, with artists from Berlin presented in Reykjavik last week and music from Reykjavik presented on our turf this weekend. Our offering is pretty diverse with something for everyone, including: the irresistible Emiliana Torrini with Ensemble X opening the festivities tomorrow, as well as Claudio Puntin & Skúli Sverrisson, AdHd, Stereo Hypnosis, Futuregrapher, dj. flugvél og geimskip, Ambátt, ThizOne, Mike Hunt (yep) and more. Day or three day festival tickets are available and can be snapped up over here. Fancy a little taste from the really Nordics this weekend? This is the one.
ASTRA – Everybody loves it!
It’s admittedly a bit of dick move featuring a gig that is sold out and we don’t have any spare tickets for. However, we’ll take any excuse to post about FKA Twigs and having been lucky enough to catch her previous Berlin show back in October, we’d recommend going to extremes to track down a ticket. Femme is simply the best, so let’s re-visit our last minute ausverkauft problem-solver:
- Post on / refresh / hound / always-keep-open the event pages (here and here). Life happens and people can’t go – be the one to snatch those tickets.
- Go there early, ask around – things do happen at the last minute, maybe someone’s mate had a dodgy Döner on the weg. Don’t be afraid to ask Leute in the queue for spares!
- Go there early, look for scalpers. Not as common in Germany, but these pricks do sometimes exist. Bring geld.
- Make friends with Twigs.
Viel glück! (particularly with the last one)

BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR – Bron loves it!
Are we taking the easy route by giving Berghain the bigger s/o again this week? Possibly, but you also can’t deny greatness and this Samstag/Sonntag you’re looking at a solid 12hour-minimum of lean, whomping techno unten and the finest of hand-throwing vibes oben. In plain speak – Berghain: Token Nacht with Rødhåd,Ben Klock , Surgeon, Inigo Kennedy, Ø [Phase], Ctrls (live), Ben Sims, Kr!z (Token), Lucy. Pbar: Motor City Drum Ensemble, tINI, Margaret Dygas, Basic Soul Unit, Mano Le Tough, PBR Streetgang, Gilb’R, Linkwood. Monday is cancelled.

FRANZ CLUB – Everybody loves it!
We mentioned this one earlier this week (and if you haven’t been sleeping you will have entered our ticket comp!): R&B femme of the moment Tinashe is on tour, and this Tuesday touches down in Berlin. Touring 2014’s ever-so-moreish, Aquarius, which features the ridiculously catchy ‘2 On‘ and the A$AP Rocky-featuring, ‘Pretend’, the 22-year old American will be bringing her perfect R&B / pop thang to Berlin for the first time, performing at Prenzlauer Berg’s Frannz Club. Doors at 19:00, show at 20:00, this is about as good as mid-week-non-techno gets. AND for our Hamburg friends: love a little Tinashe too? You’re in luck. She’ll be in your Stadt on March 11th, Mojo Club, 20:00. Bitte schön.
