While Lucy is busy making tough decision such as ‘Dog Sled Ride’ or ‘Sauna’ in Lapland, the rest of us back in Berlin can get all over a tonne of juicy parties, from more CTM Festival flavoured goodness (including a big do at Yaam on Sat), to a classic Berghain marathon and the return of a techno don to Tresor.
Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
23. JAN – SONNTAG
VARIOUS – CTM Festival 2015 – Bron loves it!
Have you already caught some of the CTM Festival events which kicked off last Friday? Now in it’s 16th edition, CTM is back and as with every year, marks the point when we usually throw in the towel ‘keeping quiet’-wise and jump balls deeps into night after night of diverse music and art offerings. A ‘Festival for Adventurous Music and Art’, the 2015 theme is Un Tune, and the program runs for a casual 8 days, Tag and Nacht, across some of Berlin’s best venues as well as featuring a number of debuts/premieres. With week passes now sold out, you’ll need to try your luck at the door, or even better, buy tickets per event – get onto that asap!
Highlights in this second week include:
- School night mischief at PANORAMA BAR on DONNERSTAG, thanks to the German premiere of the Sherwood & Pinch live show, alongside sets from adopted Berliners rRoxymore, Moon Wheel and Kablam and longtime DE Haupstadt party contributor, Errorsmith.
- A big, triple room party on SAMSTAG night at YAAM featuring 20 or so artists ‘from postinternet wave-riders to purist house devotees to fringe, mad-science experimenters’. Oh hihi. Room 1, Endo, will feature US-act 18+ who’s sexy rnb tinged electronic thang we’re getting more and more around and we’re told they’re killer live (check out Trust on Houndstooth). In that same room – 18-year old Swedish rapper, Sad Boys ring leader & internet king, Yung Lean as well as E.E.K. feat Islam Chipsy who specialise in “electro chaabi”, an Egyptian wedding inspired sound. In Room 2, Endo II, make time for Berlin-based party starter Sarah Farina, while in Room 3, Beta II, say hello to Polish techno duo RSS Boys and Jesse Osborne-Lanthier.
- The RBMA meets CTM finale at ASTRA on SONNTAG, featuring the German premiere of the Carter Tutti Void live show (made of Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey’s Chris Carter & Cosey Fanni Tutti with Factory Floor’s Nik Void), the world premiere of ‘The Sprawl’ from Mumdance, Logos and Shapednoise, alongside Berlin-based Phoebe Kiddo.

TRESOR – Bron loves it!
Looking for a good reason to have a Tresor sesh? This is a pretty good one, with Echoes returning to the Köpenickerstrasse stalwart and offering up two rooms of techno at it’s finest. The main floor will get annihilated by der one and only, Robert Hood (in his first Tresor appearance in 6 years), joined by Paris’ DJ Deep (Tresor Records) and
Roman Poncet (Tresor Records), alongside resident Marcel Heese. Meanwhile upstairs, things go dub-techno, with a live set from Detroit’s Luke Hess (FXHE), alongside Copenhagen’s Kenneth Christiansen (Echocord Records), and Berliner’s Esther Duijn (Soul People Music) and Refracted (Connwax). It’ll be a punchy one.
