What’s Up Weekend? 26 August – 2 September

SHARE ME:

If we’re one thing this week, it’s overwhelmed, but all in a really really good way with so many quality parties taking place on each day of the Woche, all with little something extra on offer. From three nights of pop in Berghain (Pop-Kultur) to absolute summer rooftop vibes at Klunkerkranich and a Sonntags soiree in our favourite club garden, via Room for Resistance. And so viel mehr. We’re admittedly coming to the end of this glorious season – make the most of it at one of the events in the week ahead below.

Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE and/or edible.

BERGHAINPOP-KULTUR Day 1 – Everybody loves it!

Catch Lucy’s preview earlier this week? The inaugural Pop-Kultur kicks off today and for three nachts will be taking over Berghain with (quite possibly) the biggest consecutive hit of pop to be heard inside those hallowed walls. On top of performances in the various rooms that make up the big house, this Music Board of Berlin initiative is packed full of bonus extras,  from book readings, to introductions of heavy weight side projects and viel mehr. Their offer is a pretty impressive one and comes via tickets per show or a discounted bad boy for daily tickets, the Wahl-Abo ticket.

Our musical picks are spread out over the days below, with Wednesday possibly being the most wild of the lot thanks to Matthew Herbert and  André de Ridder in the Garderobe, Panthu du Prince in the Halle and Owen Pallett & stargaze, Rival Consoles, Lapalux and Inga Copeland (Yep, all of them!) in Berghain.

BERGHAINPOP-KULTUR  Day 2 – Everybody loves it!

We continue on last night’s ideal vibe with the ever-awesome Neneh Cherry with Rocketnumbernine and the DE premiere of the Herbert live show in the Halle. Meanwhile in Berghain-Berghain, we’ll finally be getting balls deep in the schönest feelings c/o Kiasmos (Olafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen), an old favourite of ours (Bron’s) The Juan Maclean. It probably makes sense to try to get to both gigs here.

BERGHAINPOP-KULTUR Everybody loves it!

Meanwhile in the Halle, get introduced to Sophie Hunger, and before everything kicks off catch a chat with Alec Empire,  Dieter Gorny, Anne Haffmans and Heiko Maas.

SAMSTAG

BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR Bron loves it!

Filed under Sat, but you know how it is…. This Sat/Sund/Mond we’re eyeing off the big haus and regretting using our quota of booked Berghain-Mondays off work earlier in the year, as Pbar is pretty much 10/10 from start to finish, and Berghain isn’t half bad either. Upstairs: we’ll be feeling all the right feels to Palms TraxItaloJohnson,  Uncanny Valley Soundsystem, Martyn, Dauwd and moreeee. Downstairs, oh hiya Rodhad. Alongside Cosmin TRG, Henning Baer, Vatican Shadow LIVE, Ancient Methods and ja genau, more. Our tip – factor some daylight/outside breaks into this for longevity throughout the session. It’s going to be an inferno, and even the most dedicated health goth needs a little Vit D.

SONNTAG

://ABOUT BLANK  – Bron loves it!

There’s (very sadly) no denying that we are now moving towards the tail end of summer. With that in mind, there’s probably nothing more called for than enjoying every last ray of that summer vibe (31 degrees of VIBE!), outside/al fresco/draussen, in a wonderfully overgrown garden to a body-moving soundtrack alongside a friendly and open crowd. This Sonntag, it looks like we’re in for all of that and more thanks to Room for Resistance who will be taking over this favourite dancefloor of ours for a daytime soiree. Their ethos is pretty great: a party dedicated to diversity – of musical styles, sexualities, ethnicities, bodies – R4R aims to feature women, queers, transpeople, and people of colour in leadership roles, without categorisation. They’re all about that community vibe and this Sund, residents Luz, Rroxymore and Dasco will keep that welcoming feel alive with guests David ElimelechJacopo and LMGM. Side note – their flyer is also pretty wonderful. See you from 11:00.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
