An all day brunch extravaganza, jazzier vibes, a 50th birthday party rave in Mannheim & Seekae’s Alex Cameron doing his solo thang (to which you could win tickets!). Oh hihi Berlin, it’s a something for everyone kinda weekend :-* X
Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
YAAM – Lucy loves it!
As the temperature drops, life starts to get sexier – this is the unintentional fact of Winter. So THANK GAWD we’ve managed a good bit of support music for all those feels. Enter José James. Coming to YAAM from Brooklyn, New York with his blend of jazz, hip-hop, R&B and electronica inspired music – this one is sure to get your body temperatures up. Support comes by way of Perera Elsewhere – who I am not too familiar with, but the “friends who like this” on Facebook are legitimate music people and her self described music genre is “Doom_folk” – so she must be doing something right ! Ham-sandwich (Lucy’s dad) and I (Lucy) are going – we are excited. Dad has been warned there are no seats, he will be wearing comfortable shoes – come find us at the bar for wine !
Also worth checking out:
MAIMARKTHALLE (MANNHEIM) – Bron loves it!
This Saturday sees Mannheim host the 50th Geburtstags party to end all Geburtstags parties, with a 12-hour marathon in a 20,000 leute capacity venue for Sven Väth – the German/world techno legend who’s being going at it for a good 30+ years. The venue usually used for annual behemoth, Timewarp, (who are co-running this event with Cocoon) will see Papa Sven joined by a number of friends including Richie Hawtin, Luciano, DJ Koze, Alex Azary and hopefully a few of these old heads from his Love Parade days. There’s no doubt that this will be a hell of a big one and pretty significant “Alles gute” to someone who shows know signs of stopping.
While not in Berlin, we’re going to throw out there that tickets are still available and while Mannheim really is the other side of Deutschland (we’re talking 5-6 hours by car), a return trip via Bla Bla Car will only set you back €60. And well, when was the last time you went to a birthday rave with 15,000+ others??
KARL-MARX-BUCHANDLUNG – Everybody loves it (Food)!
What was once the Karl-Marx Allee Bookshop this Samstag becomes the space for an all-day feasting extravaganza surrounding our favourite weekend meal – brunch. Das Brunch are returning for an autumnal affair and this time the offering looks ridiculous with food and drinks from Silo (fresh juices, hausgemachtes cider, bloody marys, craft beer), Pieoneers (scotch eggs), Companion Coffee (coffee), JONES ice cream (Belgian waffles and biscuits), Wholly Goodness (Cake and vegan treats. Like food porn? Head over here), Paper & Tea (matcha and whole-leaf teas) and all day breakfast from Das Brunch themselves. Keeping it wochenende – this will cater to both earlier risers and the Fri-night escalation massive – kicking off at 10:00 and kicking you out at 18:00. Treat yo self!

NEU WEST BERLIN – Everybody loves it!
It’s a double-whammy of Australian treats this week with Seekae in town (playing Thurs 30th – watch this space) and a solo gig from the band’s Alex Cameron, this Tues at art space Neu West Berlin. Following a number of shows this summer in Berlin – which we’re told were pretty unforgettable – our friends at Shameless/Limitless have invited Alex back for more of his thing (his thing being less electronic than Seekae, and much more centred on his delicious voice. Preview over here). It’s also a two-for-one kinda affair, with a second headline slot from Hush Hush, who we know less about but are told is a “locally sourced R’n’B hitmaker, visionary and performer extraordinaire” (sample via his Bandcamp page). Hiya. The night will kick off at 21:00 and if you like your musical treats frei…..
