This week we’re jumping into the 16th edition of CTM Festival, heading to Arena Club to kickstart our weekend and clocking double figures in the big haus Sat/Sund. Komm mit?
And for our international friends – it’s also Burns Supper Night on Sunday and Australia Day on Mond. Buy your Scottish and Australian friends a drink or something (oh, hihi ;) ).
Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
ARENA CLUB – Bron loves it!
It’s Freitag and we’ll be choosing to dance floor our way into the weekend at Arena Club, where new-ish series Tough Love is back for it’s third round. On the bill this Jan edition – Mutual Dreaming’s Aurora Halal (who if you’re new to, get to know via this seriously good mix for Smoke Machine), Berlin-based Delsin and Rush Hour associate BNJMN in his first adopted hometown appearance for too long (months we think?!), Snuff Trax’s Alienta and rounding things out JM Moser. One of increasingly fave clubs in Berlin, with a line-up like this you should be in for a pretty tasty night.

VARIOUS – CTM Festival 2015 – Bron loves it!
Now in it’s 16th edition, CTM Festival is back and as with every year, marks the point when we usually throw in the towel ‘keeping quiet’-wise and jump balls deeps into night after night of diverse music and art offerings. A ‘Festival for Adventurous Music and Art’, the 2015 theme is Un Tune, and the program runs for a casual 8 days, Tag and Nacht, across some of Berlin’s best venues and features a number of debuts/premieres. With week passes now sold out, you’ll need to buy tickets per event – get ono that asap!
Highlights in this first week include:
- The kostenlos (yep!) exhibition opening at KUNSTDAUM (that pretty, large building on Mariannenplatzt) on Freitag, featuring Emptyset, Derek Holzer, Zimoun, Konrad Smoleński and loads more. A great option if you want to get involved, but don’t have the Geld.
- An eclectic as it gets Mischung at YAAM on Samstag with Room 1 (Alpha) featuring Sick Girls’ Keppler, SOPHIE and Danny L. Harle and Comemé’s Philipp Gorbachev & The Naked Man, while Room 2 (Beta) goes down a darker path with post-industrial duo OAKE co-curating this night’s line-up which also includes Grebenstein, Zamilska and Shaddah Tuum.
- Oh and Tues – a night at BERGHAIN featuring one hell of a mammoth synth, the Max Brand Synthesizer, brought to life by Elisabeth Schimana’s Höllenmaschine, Swede Peder Mannerfelt, Justin K Broadrick as JK Flesh and the artist behind one of my (Bron’s) favourite albums and live performances of 2014, The Bug, who will this night debut his Sirens show, which is built of ‘sirens, foghorns, and bass drones’ and performed on his own sound system. Fuck me.
There’s also a whole lot more on (and more coming in next week’s What’s Up Weekend). For the full program, hit ze link below.
BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR – Bron loves it!
While you’d struggle to find a Samstag/Sonntag Klubnacht at the big haus that isn’t bananas, this weekend’s night-day-nighter is on a pretty mad level. Celebrating 10 whole Jahren of Yossi Amoyal’s Sushitech, Panorama Bar will see a takeover from the Berlin-based label and Freunde, featuring Delano Smith, Roman Flügel, Sanasol (live), Thomas Melchior and Yossi himself. As things roll into Sonntag, catch XDB, Efdemin and Ryan Elliott. HILFE BITTE. Downstairs? It’s a Berlin affair, with a mostly-DE Haupstadt based line-up of Ed Davenport as Inland (live), Scuba, Oliver Deutschmann, Brotherhood (Spencer Parker), Mano Le Tough in his downstairs debut, Staffan Linzatti (live) and noch mehr. Suggestion: an Urlaub request for Montag.
