What’s Up Weekend? 21 – 27 August 2014

Berlin Atonal returns – and probably explains why things are a little quiet around the rest of Berlin. Not headed to this festival at Berliner Kraftwerk? Then fight the freeze with dancing draußen at IPSE and ://about blank. Kisses X

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

Returning this week is Berlin Atonal – a festival focussing on experimental live electronic music, which first ran throughout the 80s in West Berlin.  In the second year of it’s modern reincarnation Atonal again takes place in the main hall of former power-plant Berliner Kraftwerk, which also happens to be home to Tresor & OHM. As far as performance spaces – or spaces full stop – go, this must be one of the most impressive in Berlin, with lovers of all things industrial and gigantic in for a big treat (those high ceilings? The stuff dreams are made of).

Once we get past the venue’s awe-factor, Atonal’s line-up across it’s 5-days (things actually kicked off yesterday – oops!) is completely bonkers with a number of the live performances being rare or world-premieres, and many also being special A/V shows. It should all be super impressive, however Saturday in particular looks nuts with Cabaret Voltaire‘s first live show in 20 years, Max Loderbauer, Neel, Bleed Turquoise and Fis PLUS a killer after party downstairs from Millie & Andrea (live), Vessel, Powell, Sigha, Neel and Killing Sound. Not enough? Across the other nights catch Sendai, Miles Whittaker (this time solo), Dalhous, Abdulla Rashim, Dasha Rush, Donato Dozzy & Nuel, Tim Hecker, and loads more. If the rest of Berlin’s calendar is looking a bit leer this wochenende – this is why. Tickets are still available online or can be purchased at the door. Treat yourself to something special.

BOHNEN GOLD – Ashore w/ Leibniz – MEHR INFOS

ESPACE SURPLUS – Letting Grow (Exhibition – part of Project Space Festival) – MEHR INFOS

BERGHAIN KANTINE – Korner w/ Blind Observatory – MEHR INFOS

IPSE – Bron loves it!

Here’s a scary thought – Summer is kinda drawing to a close. BAH – NEIN :( The obvious answer to this is to make the most of every last opportunity to party draußen and this Fri right through until sometime Sat morn, Odd Fantastic and a couple of Freunde should be able to help. Taking place at IPSE – a venue that seems to be throwing more & more vibey parties – party-masters Odd Fantastic have invited along Dionne (Smallville), Huerco S. (Future Times), Juniper (Meandyou), Simon Caldwell (Mad Racket Sydney), Sarj  (Persuasion) and Yuko Asanuma, for a night of tasty record selection and dancing. An ideal kickstart to your weekend.

://ABOUT BLANK – Bron loves it!

Doing what they do best, ://about blank plays host to another marathon party this weekend, with this Zeroize 20 hour affair being another excellent opportunity to get in some of those al fresco feelings. We predict the usual format of indoors over night, garden floor during the day, and they have a pretty hefty line-up to ensure you stick around for the daylight hours incl. Ada (live), alex.do, Max Cooper, Esther Duijn, Savas Pascalidis and mehhhrr.

Also worth checking out:

BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR – Benjamin Damage (live), Discodromo, Moomin, Oliver Deutschmann  – MEHR INFOS

STATTBAD – Back from Break: Citizen, DJ T, Sven Weisemann – MEHR INFOS

IPSE – White Tiles – MEHR INFOS

PRINCE CHARLES – Porn by Pornceptual (*the less clothes the cheaper the entry) –MEHR INFOS

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
