What’s Up Weekend? 20 – 26 November 2014

We’re theming these week ‘winter is coming’ with all sorts of darker shades to fit the ever decreasing temps and sunlight. Including prime techno and more left of centre stains of electronic music taking over dancefloors around Berlin. Can’t handle that? Take a short Pause for something a whole lot lighter by way of old mate above, Asbjørn. Choices – got them! X

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

BANG BANG CLUBLucy loves it!

Do you feel like dancing? I do. Tonight you will find one of our fav Danes Asbjørn at Bang Bang Club doing exactly that (dancing) because old mate can dance. I very much mean this. His music is pop-tastic, his ability to work a stage is like no other and he is one of the prettiest guys around. There is ACTUALLY nothing better than witnessing live music, where it becomes contagious and dreamy. Asbjørn is that. Embrace it. Everything kicks off at 21:00, I think.

ARENA CLUB Bron loves it!

It’s undeniably getting fucking freezing, and with icey temps, longer nights and a general grey vibe it’s most definitely time to embrace what Berlin does best – winter clubbing to a soundtrack of techno in dark and sweaty clubs. Urghhhhh COME AT US. Tonight – it’s about as good as things get, with the return of Dystopian at Arena. It’s a two birds one stone kinda affair – with Arena being one of Berlin’s underrated gems and Dystopian being a killer (and much-loved) label/agency/promoter of prime Berlin techno. This round we’ll be dripping sweat with Rødhåd (Dystopian), Black Nakhur (Pneuma Dor), Alex.Do (Dystopian), Distant Echoes (Dystopian) and Edward (Giegling). Our tip? Get there early to avoid long queues in the near 0’s.

Meanwhile just a couple of kms north-west at the big house, the darker vibe continues with an equally as delicious offering by way of this night from Polymorphism and PAN. The latest in the immer gut CTM off-shoot series, this fling sees Polymorphism showcase Berlin-based label PAN with Objekt, Lee Gamble (live), Helena Hauff, Visionist, Beneath and more all along for the ride. Upstairs – you’ll find a completely different, housier flavour, with an takeover from Upon You, with founder Marco Ressman joined by Ruede Hagelstein, Martin Landsky and Simian Mobile Disco. Variety, spice of life, etc.

ARENA – Lucy loves it !

The info we have on Hood-lum is as follows: a date (21 Nov) and a phone number (+49 30 120 89 450) prompting us to call to party. To be honest – you should call the number if you are a little bit not German not only to learn that this party is run by a bunch of really cool people/ the general details but also because old mate on the phone pronounces Schlesisches Tor worse than I do, and if nothing else – that’ll make your German as an alternate language heart feel really good about itself.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
