What’s Up Weekend? 19 – 25 February 2015

SHARE ME:

Branching out beyond our usual weekend club M.O., this week we’re getting all over mid week gigs (Dan Deacon TONIGHT and Benjamin Clementine on Wed) and, er, a cheeky wine fair with a casual 400+ exhibitors running Fri – Sund. It’s delicious on some many levels – get all over the variety / see you at the fair.

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

DONNERSTAG

SCHWUZEverybody loves it!

Presented by Powerline Agency, Puschen and Shameless/Limitless, tonight catch Dan Deacon at Neukölln’s Schwuz where he’ll be bringing his eccentric one-man show back to the Haupstadt. This gig coincides with the release of his new album, Gliss Riffer, due out on Domino next week (and streaming over here), and we’re looking forward to hearing this new material along with his trademark engaging live show thang that we’ve heard nothing but praise for (we’ve read one review that describes him leading a ‘massive high-five pit, human bridge experiment, and arena-wide dance-off’ – yes please).  Kicking off at 20:00, support will come from SFTSTPS.

STATION BERLINEverybody loves it!

Know your Rieslings from your Müller-Thurgaus, or want to? This Fri through Sund sees STATION Berlin play host to what we’re told is Germany’s largest wine fair, WEINmesse Berlin, – and if there’s one thing we’d rather spend our club entry on this Wochenende, it’s making our way through 400+ exhibitors of German and international wine on a single ticket. URGH YES BITTE.  A great opportunity to learn more, or something, the fair will obviously involve a fair amount of wine tasting (check out the full list of exhibitors over here) alongside a handful of fine food vendors (our money is on epic cheese). Running from Fri – Sat, 14:00 – 21:00, entry will set you back 17€ and we’re 95% sure this gives you access to a tonne of wine. And if you’re still not convinced, check out 2014’s highlights clip over here.

PRINCE CHARLESLucy loves it.

Not wanting heavy techno vibes this weekend? That’s all good – Sylvan Esso is in town. This is sort of an oopsie-daisy band, that didn’t mean to end up together but did because FATE ! And isn’t that nice, when things happen because right place, right time, right mind set. Bliss. Not in Berlin? Seems they are doing a pretty major tour around this big old globe of ours. The internet says this one starts at 19:00 – really? Anyway, get there, get a drink and settle in for all the vibes.

GRÜNER SALON – Everybody loves it!

Sometime last year, Lucy and I caught Benjamin Clementine‘s first Berlin show and it was nothing short of amazing. For those not familiar with Herr Clementine, the summarised version of his incredible story is that after fleeing London for Paris at 20, he found himself homeless and began busking to survive. A self-taught pianist who’s first venture into singing was on these Parisian streets, he was discovered,  and a tonne of gigs later found himself with a lot of big name support (incl. from Jools Holland). This Wed – it’s your chance to catch this incredible musician for yourself, as he plays Grüner Salon in Mitte. Your best bet for a taster, is to get around his Cornerstore EP, or jut take our word for it and head on down. Tickets are €17 in advance – or watch this space for a cheeky little flash sale giveaway in the coming days.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
