What’s Up Weekend? 18 – 24 September 2015

SHARE ME:

It’s Autumn. Prime clubbing season – incoming.

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE and/or edible.

FREITAG

POSTBAHNHOF / URBAN SPREEEverybody loves it!

This right here is your perfect non-techno Freitag – with the return of Mac DeMarco + co to Berlin for a full show and absolute after party vibes to follow c/o our friends at Shameless/Limitless (who were last week’s guest What’s Up Weekend-ers). Part Eins – Mac Demarco gets all dream rock and Berlin falls in love (/back in love) with the Canadian who this round is touring last month’s Another One. Part Zwei – we move on over to Urban Spree post-gig for more beverages, (I’m going to predict a whole lotta) babes and a line-up worth heading out for alone incl. Walter TV (feat Joe and Pierce of Mac’s band),  Andy Boay (solo project from Andy, who plays in Mac’s band + TONSTARTSSBANDHT) and DJ sets from  Joe McMurray, Molly Nilsson, Barry Burns (Mogwai) and even more. Mac ticket holders also get reduced entry. It’s the Freitag that keeps on giving.

Prediction – babes.

FREITAG – SONNTAG

SALON ZUR WILDEN RENATE – Bron loves it!

Renate are turning 8 and throwing a multi day party over their multi levels and rooms, and chances are that this will be a pretty wild affair regardless of the day and/or hour.  Featuring – dOP – (dj set), Tornado Wallace, Fantastic Man, Rex the Dog (live), MHM One, Session Victim, Matt John, Peak & Swift, Dave Harvey, Paramida and so many more.

Prediction – confetti.

SAMSTAG

FARBFERNSEHERBron loves it!

Like your dancefloors intimate, sweaty and paired with bars that serve really, bloody strong long drinks? Your Samstag pick is right hurrr, with the latest Berlin-leg of the (mostly) Scottish-based Bigfoot’s Tea Party taking over Farbfernseher’s cosy dancefloor. Tunes for the eve come via Wrick, Chris, George, strong drinks come via one of the friendlier Berlin club bars. As always, getting here early is recommended – Skalitzerstrasse 114 fills up quickly.

Prediction – sweat.

SAMSTAG – SONNTAG

BERGHAIN/PANORAMA BAR Bron loves it!

Some of my favourite Berlin memories are of an ideal Autumnal activity that involves: 1) waking up on Sonntag, 2) drinking Sekt and eating delicious breakfast eats, 3) proceeding to cycle through an Autumnal Berlin then, 4) spending every remaining hour of the weekend dancing to the very best tunes in the very best big haus by Ostbahnhof.

This Sat/Sund/Mond – has that pretty picture written all over it. With a totale madness line-up that includes, upstairs: Margaret Dygas, Function, DJ Sprinkles, Discodromo, Christopher Rau, Rroxymore LIVE, The Black Madonna, Steve Mizek. Downstairs: Kobosil, Francois X, Stenny, Norman Nodge, Marcel Dettmann, Len Faki, HD Substance. Really – this is a very real and happening thing.

Prediction – feels/sore feet.

SONNTAG

MARKTHALLEEverybody loves it!

Probably the best thing you could be doing this Sonntag outside of techno is attending the once monthly Breakfast Market that takes over Markthalle Neun. Unfamiliar to the set-up? We’re talking stall after stall of brunch-y street food and a handful of more-than-decent wine stands. Prosecco and a 5 course brunch – it’s what Sonntags dreams are made of. Our tips: prosecco, that breakfast burger (I want to say north-east corner?), prosecco, the gluten-free coconut-milk thai pancake (middle row-ish), prosecco and a cheeky slice of cake from that decadent stand near the main entrance.

Prediction  – food baby.

MITTWOCH

URBAN SPREE

Wednesday night you are going to find yourselves at the Vancouver x Berlin. What is this you ask? Simple: it’s a showcase night introducing two electro-pop artists from Vancouver: Fine Times and The Zolas. Both bands represent the best in raw west coast pop – Fine Times with its danceable indie rock grooves and The Zolas with its nostalgic college sounds. The entrance is free: all you need to do is sign up, show up and enjoy the show.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
