What’s Up Weekend? 18 – 24 June 2015

Traditionally one of the best weekends on the Berlin summer cal, we’re more than excited about summer solstice 2015. We’ve got the schønest of Scandi celebrations by way of Midsommar Festival at Urban Spree (to which you could win g-list, see below!), a whole day and nacht of frei music via the worldwide Fête de la Musique, the pinnacle of these events in the Red Bull Music Academy Stage at Mauerpark and amongst all of that a handful of food related activities, and well, just have a look at Berghain the weekend-long.

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE and/or edible.

HALLESCHES HAUS – Mobile Kino x Hallesches Haus – Outdoor Dinner And A Movie – Everybody Street – MEHR INFOS

URBAN SPREEEverybody loves it!

The schönest day on the Scandi calendar is here and as is tradition our friends at Nordic by Nature are throwing one vibey afternoon and nacht celebrating all that is Scandi / Daylight / Summer / Flowery-Feel Good right here in unser Haupstadt. OH HEJ. We’re talking Midsommar Festival – one of our favourite summer events and your annual opportunity to don a flower wreath sans judgement. Kicking off early at 16:00, they have a tonne of delicious things lined-up, including a full program of Scandi tunes from Beatrice EliAzure BlueStockhaus, Hanna Järver, Ra and loads more. There will also be the traditional games – which you really need to get around – including paper chase, flowers wreath making (you’ll need to get here early to nab your Blumen) and our favourite, the dance around the maypole – one of the cuter activities you’ll see all year. On top of all that there’s food, lots of outdoor space to drink and chill and, well, a tonne of ridiculously good looking people. There’s no losing here.

Ticket wise – unless you signed up for a freebie in advance you’ll need to purchase at 10€ number at the door, ODER:

Thanks to the lovely Nordic by Nature crew we have 2 x 2 guest list spots to giveaway! Those longest day of the year vibes don’t get much better.

To win:

1. Flick this post a like (you can do this up the top or bottom – options!)
2. email win@lucyvstheglobe.com with Midsommar in the subject line by Freitag 11:30.

It’s a flash sale Leute. Viel glück!

MIET&EATEverybody loves it!

Feeling the effects of too many laps around the maypole after too many Sekt auf Eis the night before. WE HEAR YOU. As do GLUT Sandwiches, a new player in the moreish food vendor game and this Samstag hosting their launch party in Neukölln. Their thang? ”Expertly crafted grilled cheese sandwiches” – their three varieties of which will be available at their launch alongside whisky shots, tunes and a totally freundlich BYOB policy (or grab a cheap bier from them). Also keep an eye out for the cutest sausage dog in Berlin, Luna (Sanchia /Staś: if you still need a babysitter, I might be able to help – Bron). Kicking off at 11am and running all day, this little toasted morsels of goodness affair has you covered whatever time you rise. It’s almost like we want the hangover. Almost.

MAUERPARKEverybody loves it!

The pick of the offerings this Fête de la Musique (see below) once again goes to Red Bull Music Academy, who will be keeping with tradition and setting up a stage in Mauerpark featuring sets from a tonne of party-starting friends, all for absolutely FREE / KOSTENLOS / GRATIS. It’s nothing short of bonkers. Kicking off at 16:00, this open air to end all open airs will feature Hudson Mohawke b2b Mark Ronson, Hud Mo team solo (who Bron recently fell back in love with thanks to an onslaught of nostalgia at London’s Field Day), Earl Sweatshirt, Kindness (one of our favourite live acts of both this year and last) and Robot Koch. I repeat – FOR FREI. Bonus extra – last year’s event was barrier frei, so you can also BYO. It doesn’t get much better. You’ll find us watching on the hill.

VARIOUS – FÉTE DE LA MUSIQUE Everybody loves it!

A worldwide celebration of music via parties for frei? We’re listening. Kicking off on in France in 1982 as a free celebration of musical diversity, Fête de la Musique has grown into a worldwide party held annually on Summer Solstice (June 21st), with something like 520 cities worldwide participating (41 in Deutschland alone). Shit’s large scale. Berlin is obviously well into this, and loads of clubs are getting involved with free events, throughout both Tag and Nacht, showcasing music for all tastes. This year’s free selection includes parties at: Mauerpark (see above), Gretchen (their Block Party is usually one of the best picks) YaamIPSE, ELSE and loads more. Our suggestion? Grab your Fahrrad and cruise around – with so many clubs opening their doors and gardens for free this is a great chance to check out places and DJs you haven’t seen before, in the sun (maybe) at your own pace. Get around those global celebration feelings.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
