What’s Up Weekend? 17 – 23 July 2014

We’re admittedly a little light on the recommendations this week as we prepare ourselves for a mahoosive wochenende at Melt. However – if you’re sticking around Berlin there are obviously still a lot of great parties to choose from – including the return of rock/art extravaganza Satisfactory Factory at Urban Spree. We’ve got freebies for that one – check that shiz below!

Heiß kisses XX

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

URBAN SPREE – Everybody loves it!

Not heading to Melt or Gondwana? Get that festival feeling right here with music/art extravaganza Satisfactory Factory curated by Berlin-based, Australian-bred band ME. Now in it’s second year and having grown to events in three major international cities – Berlin, London and New York – this Friday sees Urban Spree host this celebration of all things Rock ‘n’ Roll, including live performances from ME themselves, Felidae Trick, and fellow Australians The Woohoo Revue (rolling on from their recent Glastonbury set) and The Imprints, plus loads more. The night will also include a number of DJ sets, live painting in the garden from Brainchild, Jak and more, and for the more ink-inclined amongst us, tattoo artists crew, Ocho Cuervos, will also be doing their thang.

Amongst all the house & techno here in the German Haupstadt, we’re into this one as we think it should be a great chance to check out something completely different and perhaps get to know some new bands. Or walk away with a tattoo. Whatever your flavour, all of this is also totally affordable – and will only set you back a handful of euros if you enter before 22:00. WIN/WIN. Or!:

Thanks to the Satisfactory Factory crew we have 1 x 2 tickets to giveaway! We’re/they’re too good to you! To win – we’re keeping it simple, and all you need to do is email bron@lucyvstheglobe.com with the subject “Satisfactory Factory” before 15:00 Freitag. Make sure you’re checking your emails as we’ll let the winner know shortly after.

BERLIN, BEATS & BOATSBron loves it!

With 30 degrees predicted for Saturday, the timing couldn’t be better for Berlin’s annual heaving boat convoy down the Spree. Now in it’s 6th year,  the day-long affair sees 15 boats travel from Mitte to Müggelsee along Berlin’s busiest water way, with boats being captain’ed by a whole host of party players including Mobilee & Friends, Stil vor Talent, The Gym/Tartelet Records, Club der Visionaere, Tresor meets Secretsundaze und mehrrrr. Unfortunately it looks like tickets might have sold out for a number of these, however give it a crack and if you can’t get on board the party you’re after, you could also join in Part 2 of the day – an evening long festival at Arena, Eastport. Suggestion to all the club kids making a rare appearance in daylight hours – sun cream.

COOKIES – Bron loves it!

Cookies – the Mitte stalwart with a dancefloor that has been open for 18 years (!) – is shutting it’s doors. Auf wiedersehn, guten nacht, Tschüssi, Ciao-y, Bye. etc. It’s a pretty huge deal, with the club having played host to an incredible list of names over the years and they’ve been seeing things out in style for the past month or so now with a series of closing parties featuring a number of former guests. This Saturday, it’s the final FINAL dance with Turntablerocker, Eva Be, Oliver Barduhn, oh, and DIXON. Hiya. For obvious reasons this should be a pretty popular one – get there early!

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
