What’s Up Weekend? 9 – 13 January 2014

SHARE ME:

You’ve recovered from 60+ hours in Berghain now, right? 4 sehr gut reasons to leave the Wohnung this wochenende. Go on, Berlin wants you to!

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

FREITAG

SAMEHEADS – Bron loves it!

All a bit weird and wonderful, B.L.A.D. magazine (run by Sex Tags and Blank Blank) are throwing a party tonight at Richardstrasse’s Sameheads, a bar/cafe/shop/art/anything-goes-space worth a visit alone. The Bergen/Berlin super-limited print mag are celebrating two new releases  – Heroes II and Inflatable Sexciting (head over here for a sample) – and you’ll be able to purchase copies on ze night. Musically, it’s a welcome Norwegian affair with Sex Tags’ DJ Fettburger and label mate Telephones, along with locals Muscle Temple DJs. This is all kicking off at 20:00. Credit to Donelle for the head’s up here :)

SAMSTAG

STATTBAD – Bron loves it!

tbh I kinda wanted to take January easy, maybe have a few quiet Saturday nights in with a bottle of red, hide under my doona, watch a period drama or zwei. But this one is TOO GOOD to sit out. It’s another Smallville meets Odd Fantastic takeover at Stattbad, and as always it’s more than enough reason to head north to Wedding (which really isn’t that far away Leute, seriously, time that train journey). Along for this ride will be Pangaea (Hessle Audio), Delta Funktionen (Delsin), DJ Richard (White Material), Amir Alexander (Vanguard Sound), Smallpeople (aka Julius Steinhoff & Dionne, Smallville) and Juniper (Smallville). For the uninitiated – this should be a bit of a musical mixed bag (various strains of house and techno), etwas für alles kinda affair. Enjoy!

LOFTUS HALL – Bron loves it!

Meanwhile, down by the Landwehr Kanal, Loftus will see the return of Détachement (french accent, s’il vous plaît) who have invited Aus / Graded’s Midland over from the UK for one of his typically delicious sets. He’ll be joined by Robert Johnson resident Candy Pollard, Thierry Glove, and détachement host Karl Ferdinand. Looking for a taster? Sample Midland’s set from Pbar last Feb. Shit was heavenly.

PRINCE CHARLES – Bron loves it!

New Years Clubbing Resolution #2: more Disco. Let’s make 2014 about being really happy, and damnit, you can’t get much happier that disco. IT JUST SO FEEL GOOD. Tonight – get a really good dose of that with Horse Meat Disco’s 5th Berlin Birthday Celebration. Running weekly parties in London since 2003, the partay collective of four are now celebrating five years of bringing their disco flavour to Berlin. With everyone  in town for this one – James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Filthy Luka & Severino – I have no doubt that this will be a ridiculously good time. Go and get wrapped up in feel-good.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
