I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:
- Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
- Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
- Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.
**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
There’s a hint of inevitable hangover in the air post-CTM, however we are in Berlin, so pull it together and you know, make that party.
HORST KREUZBERG – Bron loves it!
Over at Horst, Mister Saturday Night return to Berlin as part of their European tour, along with DJs from Berlinale film ‘Lose Your Head’. The Misters’ vibe/wibe of disco with lashings of house & techno, should be the ticket for anyone wanting a feel-good boogie with friends. Meanwhile ‘Lose Your Head’ (screening in various locations during Berlinale) could be worth checking out, with a number of local clubs featuring in the ‘psycho-thriller’.
SUICIDE CIRCUS – Bron loves it!
Like things a little harder? Then head over to Suicide Circus for some banging techno courtesy of AnD, Sunil Sharpe and local co. If AnD’s 001 or this mix from Sunil set the sound, shit could get fairly heavy. It’s probably not for everyone, but if you want to experience pounding techno in a messy setting – get involved.
SATURDAY mixes into SUNDAY
BERGHAIN/ PANORAMA BAR – Bron loves it!
I’ll be sounding like a broken record, continuously big-upping Berghain, but this weekend’s offering is undeniably wieder gut and you can’t ignore the ‘wow’ factor of this Sat/Sund combo. Over the course of 24+ hours there’s potential to see the likes of Ben Klock, Maya Jane Coles, Apollonia and their Berlin debut (Dyed Soundorom, Shonky and Dan Ghenacia), Rødhåd, Barnt, Norman Nodge, Matias Aquayo, Derek Plaslaiko and EVEN MORE. And that, lovely Leute, is €12 exceptionally well spent.
LOFTUS HALL – Everyone loves it!
If the above sounds overwhelming and you’re feeling a cosier setting, head to Loftus for the White Tiles night with Lando Kal and Greymatter. You won’t lose your friends, you should still turn up for work on Monday and on top of that you’ll be treated to a bouncy night of house-cross-everything goodness.
HAU – Everyone loves it!
Not strictly disco (although make of the experience what you will), Peaches’ movie Peaches Does Herself screens tonight at Hau (as part of Berlinale). Capturing footage from her musical of the same name, by all accounts (and predictably so), it sounds like a colourful, wacky, camp extravaganza and one sure-fire way to shake up your Sunday evening. Q&A with Peaches to follow.
What’s this Berlinale business? Well, if every part of you really is screaming for a club-hiatus, take an alternative hit of cultcha c/o Berlin’s International Film Festival (now in it’s 63rd year – that’s impressive, no?). Films for alles, treat yourself.
