What’s Up Weekend? 3 July – 9 July 2013

What's up WeekendOK – so this week is Fashion Week. We don’t much get into Fashion Week, and it’s already started, and to be honest – Bron and I simply haven’t got our heads into this. I’m sorry. But there are parties galore! And your mates over at Shambo.de covered What’s Up Fashion Week!, although that all seems to be wrapping up today… #whomp by us.

Bron still going to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin this week, although we are running a bit light on after Glastonbury’s madness. It will still allow us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.

**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

BERLINER FESTSPIELE – Lucy is going! (this is Thurs/ Fri/ Sat, FYI)

So there is something going on at Berliner Festspiele – and it feels complicated. But from what I can understand: Thursday and Friday night are free music. There will be tonnes of hipsters, DJ music and live music. Saturday night at the same venue costs you 10€ – there are more acts playing (like: Anika and Dirty Beaches). It should be fun – I am going (Lucy) with my friend Henning (no fear of pop – who told me about it, because he’s hip) and Steffi (Nordic by Nature). Come along, it should be a hoot.

PRINCE CHARLESBron loves it!

We’re partial to a little bit of disco – once again, we are finding ourselves at Prince Charles with Eddie C, Yooj, Lazercat… It’s going to be warm, Prince Charles is mostly outside – and the music will be delicious. Come rejoice, because it’s a mutherfucking Friday.

WHITE TRASH FAST FOODEveryone loves it!

Your mates over at Feeling Gloomy have moved from that Red Saloon place to White Trash. Kind of feels a bit more fitting, no? Not only theming their nights with a tinge of depression, but with the intro of this (temporary) new location – they are also giving you the rock n’ roll edge we know you have all been missing from your lives. Throw your hands up in the air, nonchalantly etc.

BERLIN, BEATS & BOATS – Everyone loves it!

Berlin’s annual water crawl kicks off this Saturday with 15 ships of  house & techno making their way up and down the Spree. This could get a little hectic in a Germans-on-tour x extreme sound clash kinda way, so it may not be for everyone (particularly if seasickness is your thang) but the Tresor (Patrice Scott, Tyree Cooper, John Osborn) and Club der Visionaere (Cabanne) boats could be a winner and the forecast is screaming big fat sun.

PRINCE CHARLES – Everyone loves it! Lucy is going!

Does anyone love their Sonntag more than Deutschland? The DE locks up shop, opens all clubs, embraces the outdoors and Früstücks their faces off. It makes all the sense! I’ve got all over that. As have the crew behind Berlin Community Radio, a new online radio station for creative Berlin, who will be throwing monthly parties that combine a number of those fave Sonntag factors. This week it’s a delicious cultural clash with South London vibes c/o Hyperdub’s divine Cooly G (live), some Americano house wackiness from Future Times boss Maxmillion Dunbar and… a Japanese BBQ – seriously. This is a winner.

I’m a sucker for a dose of Apparat, it’s all that musical emotion that gets me. So take away the electronic vibes, throw in some extra strings and I’m a mess. For risk of tears/embarrassment, I won’t be making this one however you should. It could be great! Sascha Ring and co perform their less club more cinematic Krieg und Frieden, a collection of tracks composed for a German theatre production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. It’s your more chilled and instrumental Sonntag option and not a half bad one.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
