What’s up weekend? 29 May – 4 June 2013

I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.

**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

WATERGATE – Bron loves it! Needs to be on a flight at 7am – might go?

A mid-week disco with a waterside view? This is your one. Give into school night shenanigans this Mittwoch with a Retrofit takeover at Watergate. Label main man Jay Shepheard is joined by Iron Curtis (Retrofit), Jepe (Johnwaynes) (Let’s Play House) and Yooj (Retrofit). Hand-raising and fancy footwork to quality house sounds, ohne the wochenende EasyJet set. Go on then.

PRIVATCLUB – Lucy loves it! But isn’t going, and is really bummed.

OK – so it’s a Friday, you’re a dude/ femme who likes Swedish/ Australian disco (…who doesn’t!), and you don’t have shit to do? Lies, you have everything to do!! (Because) this Friday the delicious Kate Boy’s coming to Berlin, and you’re going – final. It’s not that I am trying to bully you into this – it’s just that it’s mostly rude not to….and I can’t because I’m still in Iran struggling with good internet, and eating far to much meat and rice. If you are reading this before 12P Friday 31st May – you still have a chance to win 2 tickets to the event. If winning isn’t your vibe, and you simply want to purchase a ticket with cold hard cash a ticket, go wild. You’re going to meet some pretty delicious Scandinavian creatures – roll on weekend.

NAHERHOLUNG STERNCHEN – Everybody loves it! Everybody is overseas!

Two Berlin crews – Shameless/Limitless and Noisekölln – combine tonight for one impressive musical smorgasboard over two floors at Naherholung Sternchen. Upstairs the vibes scream feel-good, live (!), and hotbed of indie babes, with the likes of Slow Magic (USA), Giraffage (USA). Mister Lies (Lefse, USA – Berlin debut, huzzah!) and local Clay Hooves. Meanwhile shit takes a grittier turn downstairs with Opal Tapes’ Rejections coming to Berlin for the first time – and live. He’s joined by DJ Richard (White Material Records), Alienata (Kat Channel/Snuff Traxx) und mehr.

COMET CLUB – Everybody loves it! Everybody wishes they could be there.

Sure the summery reference is an obvious one, but damn, if this doesn’t scream warm outdoor festival/party vibes then what does? Is Tropical are in town, with a new album to showcase, and having won over Mongolia, Berlin is up next. If that wasn’t enough, their mates, nay, everybody’s mates, Breton have been added to the bill. It’s the best kind of Überraschung! The boys from Breton are in the middle of some exciting, semi-mysterious album creation right here, in our Hauptstadt, so tonight should be a treat with some new album tasters. It’s a double whammy at Comet Club, and you’re invited.

STATTBAD – Bron loves it! But will be deep in Distortion

In a week fullua feel good, your Saturday night pick is at Wedding’s Stattbad – the northern outlier with increasingly killer line-ups on the weekly (hell, someties twice-weekly!) reg. Tonight, the deal is sealed with Scottish stalwarts Optimo, who as a duo, have been party starting and fine mix making or over 15 years. That’s something to get around. They’re joined by Kompakt’s Justus Köhncke, one of my local faves Hunee and Ed Davenport doing his techno-leaning Inland thing.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
