I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
This week is a pretty special week in Berlin, not because it’s an exceptionally good disco week. But because…you should read on to find out more.
**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
THURSDAY (27TH JUNE)
This day 26 years ago, our mate Bron made it into the world, headphones on – glow sticks in hand. This year she will be spending it in a Stone Circle at Glastonbury drinking some form of DIY cocktail, and applying farrrrr to much glitter to her face. Here’s were we say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRON! Give her a Happy Birthday in the comments, give her a quick thrill….Forever this day has been immortalized – because it was recognised on the internet. XX
STUDIO CHÉRIE – Lucy loves it!
Œ Magazine Issue 5 Release Party is happening this Friday – taking place in Neukölln, it’s free entry, the crowd will be positively delicious, our mate Dinner is playing – there is absolutely no excuse not to come along. All you need to do to get yourself on the list? RSVP before end of day TODAY! (Thursday 27 June)… AND THEN SEE YOU THERE. Yes.
PRINCE CHARLES – Bron loves it!.. and wishes she was going.
Our Friday’s have spiralled out of control lately – the standard seems to be start with ‘fuck yeah Freitag!’ vibes and end with wondering what actually happen yesterday upon waking up on Saturday Monday. We are going to give a quick thanks for the kids over at the T-Room Sessions for that. This week they are going BACK 2 BACK with Holy Water, who seem to be moving onto the sunny shores of California. There’s probably going to be a hole lotta hands up in the air, disco moment with this one with 12 hours of house/ disco vibes and an indoor/ outdoor setting to boot. With music from the likes of: Antal, San Soda, Mark Seven, Mick Wills, Hunee, Bleepgeeks, Return To Zero, Finn Johannsen – what else would you be doing?
CHALET CLUB – Bron would probably like it!
Being sold as an “All night electric battle across two floors” – what’s not to like. There are a handful of Berliner based DJ’s playing (Baron Castle, Jonathan Ritzmann and more) This is going to be an electro-deep-house-insert-dj-description here Pancakes. So get around supporting your locals and hit this one, disco heads.
BERLINER FESTSPIELE – Bron loves it!
Berlin has gone into overdrive lately with an influx of new venues or existing spaces being used for clubbier things.
Horst im Exile is a tribute to Horst (RIP) – who it seems was open one day and closed the next earlier this year. Part of the two week cultural fest “Part of Forreign Affairs fest“, Berlin does love a good cultural fest – you are going to witness Objekt, Will Bankhead, Last Magpie – and obviously more.
KIEKEBUSCH – Bron loves it!
If you like your Sonntags banging, al fresco and with a side of adventure you’ll want to get involved in this. Hell, even if that’s not your thang, shake up your usual M.O. and get all over a day trip Brandenburg – it’s another state yo! Wax Treatment are bringing their posse and their Killasan back to Kiekebusch, an open air setting on a little lake in the middle of no man’s farmland. If those rain predictions hold off this option is about as ideal as Sonntags get with Shed, Burnt Friedman (live), René Löwe, Mackjiggah & DJ Pete all putting the Japanese sound system to good use. If you really want to take things to the next level, all or some of the journey can also make for a beautiful bike ride – just don’t rely to heavily on Google Maps if you want to avoid lapping Schönefeld.
YAAM – Everyone loves it!
This one’s a tad outta leftfield. Yaam, the Spreeside space usually more associated with rastafarian beats and a thick air of ganja, is throwing a mini festival this Sat with the second edition of Homie Lover Friend. Kicking off at midday, they’re promising Soul, Funk, Hiphop, Dancehall, Grime, UKG, Footwork and House, which is a mouthful and should tick off all sorts of boxes. I’m particularly excited about the inclusion of Scratcha DVA (who I recently did some lower back damage to at Copenhagen’s Distortion) along with the promise of Caribbean & African food.
