I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
We missed Wednesday – again. Fear not, next week we’re back on track. Versprechen (80%). Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.
**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
I would really love it if there was nothing on this weekend in Berlin. Melt hit me for six and the weather screams ‘lakes’ not marathon-club stints. But you can’t fight greatness and this wochenende is nothing short of ridiculous. See you on multiple dance floors, shit’s getting sweaty:
KRAFTWERK BERLIN – Berlin Atonal (THURS – WED)
We previewed this in our Big Berlin Festival Guide over on überlin, and I’m pretty excited that this week long extravaganza has now arrived. Atonal returns with a bang after a 23 year hiatus to the fittingly dramatic setting of Kraftwerk Berlin, an abandoned power plant. Picking up where they left off in legendary performance stakes, drawcards include techno godfather Juan Atkins alongside Basic Channel’s Moritz von Oswald, John Hassel, Brandt Brauer Frick, Francesco Tristano, Voices from the Lake (Donato Dozzy and Neel), Vladislav Delay, Kanding Ray, Raime, Kassem Mosse, Actress, Vatican Shadow and even more. Tickets are available per day or for the whole week. Get involved, this should be special.
One of my favourite Berlin labels is throwing a party tonight and quite frankly I wish it was on another night and at a different venue. Call me Negative Nancy, but Project:Mooncircle (and sub-label Finest Ego) can do no wrong and I don’t think I can make this one, which hurts my sweet beats and delicious bass loving heart. If this, this or this, also floats your boat, you should most definitely head to the Kreuzberg outlier tonight where the likes of submerse, Deft, Krts, Tendts & Sieren will be throwing luscious eargasms your way. Melttttt, and please don’t tell me how nice it was.
Of the many musical discoveries of 2013 so far, one personal enlightenment was that if there’s ever a scene and an era I should’ve partied in, it’s late 80s, early 90s UK rave. Back in Feb CTM Festival closed with a killer ravey night in Berghain, and I touched the sky. It’s just so damn – FEEL GOOD. One key player in that extravaganza was Altern8’s Mark Archer, who tonight returns to Berlin for another tribute to the golden era. He’s joining Mr C (superfreq, get physical), Affie Yusuf (laila music, kht) and AXIOM (crazy language, killekill) for a night of hand raising and going to your happy place. Mask optional.
Amongst all the offerings this mental Freitag abend lies this little shindig thrown by local party makers, Ruby Cult. Returning for their third edition to st.GEORG – a venue I think might be part of Ritter Butzke but I’m not quite sure (?!) – they’ve invited down Kris Wadsworth (Get Physical) to thrown various strains of house your way. If his recent releases are anything to go by, expect ein bisschen alles. He’ll be joined by locals Lars Von Licht (Sleeves/Beachcoma), Rob Dietsche (owdt.eu) and residents.
TRESOR (FRI – SAT)
Taking control of the major Atonal afterhours, Tresor has two heavy hitting post-parties locked in give you some damn fine excuses to keep getting balls deep in quality house and techno. Friday’s offering includes DJ Deep (Deeply Rooted House, Tresor Records), Eric Cloutier (Tanstaafl, The Bunker), Nail (Classic, Airdrop) and Oliver Deutschmann (Vidab, Falkplatz) upstairs with Shifted (Avian, Mote Evolver) and Neel (Voices from the Lake, Prologue/ IT) taking to the heavier floor. Saturday’s players are equally as appealing with the great man himself, Juan Atkins, taking over the main floor and Moritz von Oswald (Basic Channel, Maurizio, Rhythm & Sound/ DE) & Thomas Fehlmann (live) (The Orb, Kompakt/ Berlin) doing their thing upstairs. If you only hit Tresor on the odd occasion, this would be the one.
It’s going to be thirty-farking-six degrees on Sonntag which screams national Deutsch disaster. If you can’t fight the disco, go down in searing heat style with your weekly Sonntag day sesh at Else, Renate’s little outdoor venture. It’s treats a plenty this wochenende with one of our favourite Norwegians, Todd Terje, in town to machen the Party. He’ll be sweating alongside locals Paramida, and Renate residents Peak & Swift. Don’t be dick and match those beers with wasser.
