What’s Up Weekend? 24 – 30 April 2013

What's up WeekendI have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.

**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

A solid weekend followed by May Day eve, no matter what your flavour, there’s etwas für alle this woche(/nende). We’ll keep it brief this week – less talk, more Party making.

OUR/ BERLIN VODKA – Everyone loves it! Everyone is going! (and so are the Ponies)

OK – so this is a bit of fun. Dinner is coming to Berlin care of no fear of pop and Nordic by Nature. Whether or not you are familiar with this recent Danish sensation, I am not sure. But his deep and somewhat dark voice is coming to visit us at a local Berlin vodka distillery – to do two things: 1. Sing for us 2. Drink vodka. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s free to get in – for the first hour you get to sample the alcoholic goods….for free. All you have to do is send an email to: guestlist@nbnberlin.de. Vodka is free from 9 until Dinner starts singing. Let’s make a game out of it?

PANORAMA BAR – Bron loves it!

Bulgaria’s finest  is headed back to Berlin, and likely en route with all sorts of live trickery. We’re talking KiNK and his renowned impressive live thang, who tonight joins Mark Henning, Marco Ressman and Tim Xavier for your Finest Pbar Freitag. House, techno and a lotta feel good.

WATERGATE – Everybody loves it! (We think?)

We’re big Omar S fans here at LVTG, and it was seeing the great man in this same setting a few months back that did it. Deliciously selected and flawless, paired with (if you’re lucky like we were) the right crowd, Alex Omar Smith is a Watergate drawcard. Throw Guy Gerber and DJ Tennis in the mix and this is a winner.

For lack of attendance at (and knowledge of) raging squat parties, I always recommend Renate as the go-to when you’re needing that semi-uncontrolled ruckus kinda vibe. Tonight – that comes paired with a Jack Off label night featuring Iron Curtis, Sasse and Elie Eidelman. A multi-roomed mess AND a killer locally selected soundtrack, it’s the best of both worlds.

STATTBAD – Bron loves it!

Celebrating 10 years of solid releases and stalwart status, Berlin’s Get Physical throws a pool party this Samstag with the entertainment provided by Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, DJ T, M.A.N.D.Y, Andhim and co. Friends of friends, house and techno vibes.

GRETCHEN – Everybody loves it!

Doing what they do best, the Kreuzberg outlier tonight hosts a Ninja Tune night with DaedelusSalva and friends. I’m going to go with: eccentric instrumental hip hop cross sometimes hectic electronic vibes – which is a lecker (read: confusing?) mixed bag that should be more than satisfying.

FESTAAL KREUZBERG – Bron loves it! Quite possibly going.

Fancy emotive captivation with a slightly unsettling (in a good way) edge? This is the one. The divine Laurel Halo is joined by Holly Herndon, Gatekeeper and Pan’s NHK’Koyxen in winding up the weekend on a slightly more experimental, far less disco front. This should be impressive.

TUESDAY (May Day eve)

WATERGATE – Bron loves it!

It’s the start of the summer season, it’s May Day eve, it’s a day off work tomorrow, it’s Papa Sven. If this sounds like your ticket, buy one as it will likely be popular, and head to Watergate for a special moment at Falckensteinstrasse 49.

SUBLAND – Bron loves it!

Croatia’s (and Europe’s) long standing, bass main player, Outlook Festival, is in sight and tonight continues a string of Euro launch parties with the Berlin leg. Your summer sampler of the drum and bass variety comes c/o of Silent Witness, Species and Cern – and rumour has it they’re also giving away festival tickets. I’m dreaming of Fort Punta Christo.

KATER HOLZIG – Bron loves it!

If it wasn’t for a friend pointing this out, I would’ve missed this one – which is ridiculous considering the time spent trawling club listings. Alles ok – we’re here now, and highlighting that for mad Frenchmen party vibes Kater’s your card. dOP are back, live and should be doing their usual insane thing. Joined by locals Ewan Pearson and Red Robin, this should be fun.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
