What’s Up Weekend? 22 – 27 May 2014

Berlin is losing it’s shit over das Sommer Vibe, there are a number of dancefloors looking extra delicious this weekend AND we’re going mad for PIES. Say whaaat? We’re super excited to join forces with Berlin-based bakers of British pies, Pieoneers, who will be bringing you What’s Up Weekend for the next two weeks – with a side of pastry. Because there’s nothing like curing your post-club hangover with a mouthful of buttery, pastry goodness. Oder?

Pieoneers are a UK-raised team bringing savoury pork pies (and Scotch Eggs!) to the DE Haupstadt – and specifically, to your door (seriously – we’re talking home delivery here). If you’ve ever searched for a savoury pie here you’ll know that A) they’re not really a thing and B) the average German is baffled by the concept, which is where Pieoneers step in. Supply and education – they’re good to us! Products infos over here. Ich habe hunger.

Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE (and/or potentially edible)

***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

MONARCH – Everybody loves it!

It’s fast wochenende, it’s obviously time to get all over a party/gig. There’s actually a fair bit to choose from this Donnerstag abend, however amongst lots of goodies, we’re vibing this little soiree from perennial party-makers Shameless/Limitless at Kotti’s Monarch. They’re offering up three live acts, with Doomsquad – a Canadian trio we admittedly previously knew zilch about but are quickly getting around thanks to this eerie number – leading ze charge. They’ll be joined by Alex Cameron, Australian and member of Seekae, who is doing ear-pleasings things team solo (that voice). The goodness will be rounded out by locals Pony, who we’re told play “dark droney dream pop” – hiya. All of this will kick off at 20:00, get involved.

Also worth checking out:

BI NUU (Sold Out – get creative) – Jon Hopkins (!) – MEHR INFOS

MADAME CLAUDE – Everybody loves it!

If you fancy starting your Friday on less ravey front, perhaps with some softer pop flavours, this right here might be your ticket. Our friends from No Fear of Pop are putting on a little  showcase in Kreuzberg’s Madame Claude – which we’re yet to frequent but are told “is composed of a series of small rooms, intimate nooks and corridors resembling a labyrinth” – this sounds fun. Keeping things classy will be Jerry Paper – a one-man electronic/pop act, touring recent LP Feels Emotions – and Berlin-based Yohuna, who we’ve been introduced to via Badges, a pretty lovely little number. This will all kick off around 21:00 – ideal for an afterwork drink.

Also worth checking out:

PRINCE CHARLES – Geradehaus w/ Tim Sweeney, Matt Karmil – MEHR INFOS

SALON ZUR WILDEN RENATE – Magic Jams Label Launch w/ Jus-Ed, Snacks live, Matthew Styles – MEHR INFOS

PRINCE CHARLES – Everybody loves it!

With a smorgasboard of top parties this Samstag, you’d probably find yourself having a riot on any of the dancefloors we’ve listed below. However amongst them, we’re particular excited for this Greco-Roman takeover of Prince Charles – partly thanks to the inclusion of a BBQ (everything’s better with Wurst), but mostly due to the delicious line-up. Kicking off at 19:00 and potentially run right through to 08:00, you’ll be encouraged onto the d-floor by Lone, Micachu & Tirzah (live), Lxury (who just realised this punchy EP), HRDVISION, Delfonic and Mentish. The kind of offering that would get both Lucy & I dancing – it’s dangerous.

Also worth checking out:

BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR – Wesley Matsell, Tama Sumo, Midland, + many more – MEHR INFOS

CHALET – Louche w/ Soundstream, Damiano von Eckert, Dan Shake – MEHR INFOS

STATTBAD – Peter van Hoesen, Elektro Guzzi (live), Peter Kruder – MEHR INFOS

DAS GIFT – Everybody loves it!

You’ve danced all weekend and are probably ganz kaputt. Treat yourself to the logical antidote – PIES. Pieoneers will be throwing another one of their super popular Pie Sundays at Das Gift – and this time around they’ll be introducing their Felafel Scotch Eggs to the menu, vegetarians rejoice! The concept is pretty simple – pies for sale on the day (or pick-up of advanced orders), drinks and venue supplied by Das Gift (there are even cocktails to-go for those park bound). For those still confused by the concept of the savoury pie, here’s your chance to taste them! Can’t make it? Don’t panic – head to Pieoneers website and order a home delivery. Einfach!

**AND: Score a free pie!**

In the spirit of butter pastry goodness, Pieoneers have given friends of Lucy vs. the Globe a little discount code to use on any orders placed before 4th June. To get involved, head to their website, make your order (min. 4 pies), enter the code GLOBE and you’ll find yourself with a €3 discount (ie. one pie for free). Bitte schön.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
