What’s Up Weekend? 2 – 8 January 2014

I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

We have moved What’s Up Weekend to Thursday, as all this weekend disco really puts us on the back foot for a Wednesday deadline. So here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.

**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

Hihi – Frohes Neues Jahr! tbh a lot of you might still be riding out an extended Silvester party – Berghain, Kater, Renate, Hoppetosse, they’ll still be kicking. Wanna see what people look like on ultra clubbing marathons? This is your opp. However whether you’re still going or starting fresh, there are still good reasons to leave the Wohnung this wochenende – here’s a snippet:

BANJA LUKA – Bron loves it!

Not stuck in the neverending Berghain blackhole? Head to Banja Luka for Cat Crew’s return, this time with Moodmusic’s Bobby Starrr . We’re told the Berliner’s known for an eclectic and energetic blend of house, disco and all sorts of everything – which sounds pretty ideal for post-NYE sore heads. He’ll be joined by Sean Patrick, with DorLiza hosting. Oh and entry’s only €3 – get all over that.

PRINCE CHARLES – Bron loves it!

Kick start your new year on a charitable note with the return of It’s Bigger Than to Prince Charles. As part of their series of ongoing fundraising events, It’s Bigger Than will donate all money raised to Mercy Corps – a charity for Syria’s refugees. Beyond the doing good thang you’ll also be thrown a whole host of musical treats, with sets from Objekt, John Osborn, Exercise One, Jack Haighton and Mother Perera aka. Perera Elsewhere. Partying while helping those less fortunate – ja, bitte.

TRESOR – Bron loves it!

On top of our general New Years Resolutions, I’ve also set myself a handful of clubbing ones. New Years Clubbing Resolution #1 – more variety. Berlin is swimming in clubs for every occasion – tap into this and mix things up. And while Tresor’s no hidden secret, I very rarely make it there – which is a shame, because when she’s good she’s gooooood. This first Fri of 2014, I’m eyeing off a session at the Kopenickerstr. powerhouse for an ideal mix of house and techno and well, club variety aside – Peter Van Hoesen! Joining the Belgian master on the main floor will be label mate Yves De Mey, Tresor’s Reka and Sleeparchive (live), with Globus hosting Rush Hour’s Tom Trago and Moodmusic’s Tyree CooperBobby Starrr.

CHALET – Bron loves it!

After an everlasting NYE extravaganza, Chalet are jumping back on it this Samstag for their first Clubnight of the year. And they’re off to a pretty flying start with Amsterdam-based duo Juju & Jordash [Rush Hour, Dekmantel] leading the charge with their first Dj set in Berlin in nearly 2 years. They’ll be joined by Murat Tepeli [OstGut Ton], Zambon [Very Polish Cutouts], Hrabioza Soundsystem [8 Bitow] and Alexander Slaughter.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
