I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
We have moved What’s Up Weekend to Thursday, as all this weekend disco really puts us on the back foot for a Wednesday deadline. So here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.
**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
FLUX BAU – Everyone loves it! Everyone is going!
This is the big one. Your mate Lucy, is joining party making forces with some of the best – überlin, Nordic by Nature, Ponydanceclyde & Feeling Gloomy – to throw Blog Party, a Freitag abend full of no shame R’n’B & Hip Hop (with a distinct 90s/00s slant). They’ve also invited along Rough Days for Diamond Trade, who will provide the live factor for the evening and a short intermission from the throes of R. Kelly. If the lure of Dre, Missy and (hopefully) Usher isn’t enough – let a free ticket make the decision for you. Head here and tell Lucy what you were vibing in 2005.
When the pigs try to get at ya.
Park it like it’s hot.
BI NUU – Everyone loves it!
This one very nearly slipped through the cracks which would’ve been a shame, because Delorean are pretty delightful. I say that from a purely playback perspective, so this live number could be the real deal maker but as far as my listening goes – ganz lecker. It was 2010’s Subiza that got me on board, and now they’re back with a new album Apar, which you’ll find them showing off this Freitag at Bi Nuu. If a night of uplifting “yeah life!” is your desired vibe, this is the one. Just make sure you walk a few hundred metres over to Fluxbau afterwards, ja?
://ABOUT BLANK (Fri- Mon) – Bron loves it! Most definitely going.
The fact that summer is quite possibly (ok, most definitely) over makes me shudder and want to book the next available flight to the south of Spain. It’ll be 28degrees in Malaga this Sonntag, FYI. But let’s not be a dick about the inevitable, what Berlin lacks in ongoing sunshine it makes up for in parties you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. And Homopatik’s end of summer marathon might just be the pinnacle of them all. The once monthly ://about blank favourite, returns this Frei, Sam, Sonn and Mon for an extended 56 stunden of debauchery, and shite weather or not, this inside/outside extravaganza should be one hell of a wonderfully loose affair. Which most of Berlin seems to know already, if you take a look at the roll call. See you in der Garten for some Kinderspiel.
SALON ZUR WILDEN RENATE (Fri – Mon) – Bron loves it!
It’s a big weekend of mega parties, and Renate’s also in on the madness with this non-stop 2 Tage affair, in celebration of their 6th Geburtstag. If there’s ever an occasion to machen the party, it’s turning a whopping 6 years old – what a hoot! (right?). Come make this a memorable one and join a pretty lengthy list of talent across both Renate and their open air venture, Else. I’m particularly vibing the inclusion of Tim Sweeney who joins a bucketload more like dOP (live), Elbee Bad & POD ORCHESTRA (live), Sven Dohse, Lee Jones, Terje Bakke, Markus Lindner, Peak & Swift, Paramida, Sebastian Voigt and Samanta Fox.
PRINCE CHARLES – Lucy loves it!
Our friends over at Snowhite/ Van Morgan have some action for you this Saturday with the release show for BOMBEE’s latest and greatest album Aurelia. We don’t know too much about old mate Bombee – but everything so far sounds softly disco, and after our big bad blog party this Friday – isn’t exactly what you are going to need. Things kick off at 8P at Prince Charles. BE THERE.
BERLINER PHILHARMONIE – Lucy is going!
Today is Lucy’s birthday. This deserves an announcement in itself… but it also seems there is stuff going on – which is a total bonus. Feel like getting your fancy on? Ásgeir Trausti & Band are playing a casual concert at the Berliner Philharmonie – and we are all going. Old mate is the dreamiest Icelandic you will likely ever hear, so if you sleep on this – we can’t help you.
BERGHAIN – Bron loves it! Bron is going (we think)!
Admittedly I’m a little late to the party however I’m here now and getting all over Tropic of Cancer, who ticks all sorts of my boxes. We’re talking dreamy without treading into saccharine waters. A little left of centre, without getting all chin strokers’ avant garde. Pony of many tricks (this is a one woman project, yo). Enough of my rubbish – LA’s Camella Lobo aka Tropic of Cancer, is touring her recently released debut full length, Restless Idylls, and on Tues takes to Berghain c/o DEATH # DISCO. She’ll be joined by DVA Damas – the duo behind this year’s Nightshade – and fellow Californian Joe Cocherell. Visuals from Pedro Maia.
