I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.
**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
FLUX BAU – Everyone one loves it! Everyone is (obviously) going!
— Lucy vs. the Globe associated event —
If you haven’t been following Lucy’s intro serious this past week, Crew Love is True Love, this is the big one. no fear of pop, überlin, PonyDanceClyde, Nordic by Nature and Lucy are all DJ’ing a party where Sandra Kolstad will play for FluxFM. The music theme (after old mate Sandra rouses you with her performing abilities)? Late 90′s early 00′s. It will get weird, and so-so wonderful. I will be wearing double (potentially triple) black velvet, there’s a very high chance of some Destiny’s Child. Get on that bandwagon.
AND….. the more the merrier – we have 2 x 2 guest list places to give away. To win? Jump in the comments below and tell us:
If you could only take one item of clothing from the
early 00′s with you into the future, what would that be?
**You have until 12pm Freitag to enter.
STATTBAD – Bron loves it!
We really like Stattbad over here in What’s Up Weekend. Without doing a count I’d say it’s probably our second most big-upped venue after the grand Berghain/Pbar mecca. Warum so gut? There’s the obvious unique venue allure – drained swimming pool main room, epic lose-yourself underground tunnels, and two smaller rooms (low ceilings, watch the pipes). But then hallo bookings! – which week after week are on the Geld. Your Wedding drawcard this Freitag comes via the Grounded Theory crew who are putting on deliciously Berlin techno affair – Function, Kangding Ray, Subjected and Henning Baer. Not convinced? Watch those two links and put yourself in that place.
PANORAMA BAR – Bron loves it!
One for the appreciators – Pbar tonight hosts L.I.E.S’ Ron Morelli & Steve Summers, along with Detroit techno luminary (I’ve always wanted to use that – does it work?) Kenny Larkin and local Sven Weisemann. Taking to Pbar for the first time, if Steve Summers’ recent Boiler Room set is anything to go by, the L.I.E.S crew should keep things more than interesting.
ROTER SALON – Everyone loves it! But it’s actually next week
If you filled your weekend poptastic feel good factor via the Flux Friday event the Friday before,
tonight’s next Saturday’s Feeling Gloomy at Roter Salon would be your ticket to bringing those serotonin levels right back down again. As a celebration of all things melancholy, ‘the world’s only club devoted to playing sad music’ tonight promises some grey, moody Mancunian vibes c/o BigFatZero aka überlin’s James (backing up – the man gets around!), with promise of Joy Division, The Stone Roses, New Order and The Smiths. Don’t bring your pearly whites.
FESTSAAL KREUZBERG – Bron loves it! Lucy probably does too?
The emotional rollercoaster continues at the tailend of the weekend, with Bastille in town to take you back up again, in a innocently feel good way. Think UK summer festival in the afternoon sun or Made in Chelsea ‘more-than-friends moment’ vibes (which is a useless comparison if you haven’t spent time in the UK, sorry). This is one for those with an incline in the indie-pop-with-heart direction.
