It’s #fashun week – AGAIN – but more excitingly the World Cup Final and damnit, Deutschland are in it! We’ve pulled together a few options for watching the game, and in between all the madness recommend you hit a few vibey parties on Thurs, Fri and Sat, natürlich.
And on top of all of this party nonsense – we are still bringing you more awesome stuff from people because YOU’RE WORTH IT…..And because we are the self proclaimed Oprah of the Internet for 2014. For the next two weeks (we’re in week 2 now Leute!) What’s Up Weekend? is proudly brought to you buy Ultimate Ear’s UE BOOM ! Which is pretty fucking exciting for everyone.
Not quite sure what a UE BOOM is – I’ll tell you. It’s like a portable boom box/ speaker that is LIFE PROOF. Drop it in water, kein ding – still works. Don’t have a cord for connection? KEIN DING – it’s runs on bluetooth ! This object right here is going to save every summer picnic you will ever venture on (if the weather ever turns good) with complete #fashun intentions (it comes in all sorts of sick colours) and…..WE ARE GIVING ONE AWAY !.. Normally these are valued at a cool 199€ – so… YOU’RE WELCOME. Winning is easy, like – literally the easiest thing you will do in ages. Simply:
- Give us your details through the Facebook page
- And you’ll go in the running.
Really – if you don’t enter, I would judge you.
Below are some of the events we are recommending for the week ahead in Berlin. Each of them is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE
***DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR – Bron loves it!
It’s the return of one of our favourite parties this weekend and we’re more than a little bit excited. Celebrating 6 years of quarterly parties at Berghain – which since 2008 have also stretched to a pretty awesome label and parties all over Europe – tonight’s 22nd Leisure System at the big house looks set to be a pretty special party. Taking over the main floor will be Andy Stott (live) (who we last saw a good 1.5 years back on the same floor, for CTM – KILLING IT), Boddika, Holly Herndon (live) and residents N>E>D, Barker & Puzzle. Upstairs: Leon Vynehall, XXXY, Ceephax Acid Crew (live), ND_Baumecker and resident, Discipline. As always the eclectic line-up is what should make this such a great night – and you’ll find us there ’till stumps. Get there early, this looks set to be a busy one.
OHM – Bron loves it!
It was only more recently that we ventured to OHM (formerly Shift) for the first time and we’re wondering why we didn’t head there earlier. The location is central and easy to get to (part of the Tresor/Kraftwerk complex), the open dancefloor slash bar makes for a vibey little room for smaller parties and the line-ups are generally super interesting (both under OHM and previously as Shift). Tonight – here’s another great reason to get to Tresor’s lesser-known neighbour with a double-header of two parties hosting by a crew known as Zerberus, starting with a release party for get happy?! magazine (21:00 – 23:00) and followed by a label night from much-loved German label Workshop. The second event will see label head Even Tuell for four hours b2b with rising label mate Midnightopera. On top of all that, entry is also super cheap and will only set you back €6. So many birds, one stone!

BI NUU – Everybody loves it!
Want to really mix your dancefloor up this wochenende with some indie/electro pop vibes? This right here could be the one. Kill All Hipsters, the DE/Dutch crew that run parties in our fair city alongside Amsterdam and Utrecht, take to Bi Nuu this Samstag for the first time (that’s the venue under Schlesi) and are promising more of their signature indie disco sounds. While the Kill All Hipsters DJ team will take over the main room, your mate Demons Galore has been left in charge of the second, which probably means ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN, in a really good, “woah shit, I forgot about this track” kinda way. All in all – this should be all sorts of a good time. Demons Galore might even take requests.

Living in Berlin is the envy of others on most weekends anyway, however being in the German capital this Sonntag??!! This shit’s going to be on a whole new level. With a combined national passion for football, a team in the final, stupidly cheap beer and an abundance of leftover fireworks we think that regardless of your feelings towards the nation’s game this Sunday Berlin is going to be a one hell of a party – and if Germany wins (!!) this is the one you’ll be telling your Enkelkinder about.
As with the rest of the World Cup there will be no shortage of locations to watch the big Spiel, however we think the following could be particularly vibey. Tip – wherever you head you’re going to want to be getting there at least 120-90minutes before the game (which kicks of at 22:00 our time) if you want to secure a seat/ideal vantage point. All of these are free to attend.
Brandenburger Tor / Fan Mile – what’s your tolerance of crowds like? Like them and/or love that mass celebration feeling? This is the one. Kinda like Love Parade, without the floats, techno and drogen, Unten den Linden will be closed from traffic and filled with thousands and thousands of excited Germans. This should be pretty wild and an incredible atmosphere. Warning – probably children, lots of them. Don’t lose your friends.
Michelberger Hotel – wrapping up their Tiki Taka WM-lang celebration of fußball, food, music and other good tings, Michelberger is a good option if you like tasty food and fancy drinks with your Spiel sehen.
Platoon Kunsthalle – “huge stadium, outdoor&indoor, big bright projection screens, cold drinks and a Brazilian BBQ!”. Big lure of this one – both indoor and outdoor options if the weather is as bonkers as it has been this week.
Your local späti – we can’t speak for every Kiez but corner spätis around northern Neukölln have been particularly vibey through the Weltmeisterschaft so far. This is your go-to if you want to keep things dirt cheap without compromising on a good time. These are your community feelings right here. Screen sizes will vary – scout things out in advance! We recommend the one on the corner of Weser & Reuter – but get there early.
Goldammer – this is our local in Neukölln. There are probably loads like this, but if it’s raining, this place is where it’s at (most of the other options here rely on good weather). €1.50 ciders, and €2.80 long drinks. You can’t go wrong. (Their screen is also kinda large in comparison to the rest of the room).
Golgatha – outside bier garten in the middle of Kreuzberg’s Viktoria Park. Also do tasty Deutsch essen. This will be HEAVING.
Prater Biergarten – your outdoor P’Berg option. This is one of the one’s you’ll want to get to hours in advance to secure a table. Which if it’s warm evening could be kinda divine.
Ländereck – football, babes and a super cool courtyard set-up in Kreuzberg. Probably very hard to get into. But, football and babes.
11 Freunde at Postbahnhof – giant outdoor screen with lots of space, which will still likely be heaving. Advantage of this one: about a 5 min walk from Berghain if you’re rolling straight off the dancefloor.
Are we missing any awesome spots? Help a schwester out and let us know! GO GERMANY!
