What’s Up Weekend? 10 – 16 April 2013

What's up WeekendI have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:

Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.

Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.

**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.

Wanna vibe some disco on a Wednesday? Who doesn’t?! Tubbe is on of todays disco productions – coming to you outta Berlin. They are kind of funny because they have these dancey indie electronic styled sounds with a Deustcher/ English vocal over the top. I guess it would be really cool to speak German right about now and understand what the fuck is going on.

WATERGATE – Bron loves it!

Your mid week feet stomp today comes via Agnes and Ron Wilson who are doing their thing at Watergate. Probably a more chilled vibe than weekend two room escalations, the water floor should see a bit of house, a bit of minimal and maybe fewer of the easyJet set. If being switched on at 9am Thursday isn’t a worry, this should be a pretty delicious warm up to the weekend.

BERGHAIN/ PANORAMA BAR – Everyone loves it! Bron is going, Lucy is 50/50.

Reasons you’ll want to head to Berghain/Pbar tonight: 1) it’s the 18th Leisure System takeover – track record of killer nights. 2) Space Dimension Controller (live) – Mr 8040 himself, recent releaser of an epic album, master of an infamous taxidermy fox. Whether an intergalactic trip into funky space is your thing (or not), this should be a damn good time.  3) 2562, all sorts of interesting everything (techno, dubstep, and unsettled in-betweens). 4) Alex Smoke as Wraetelic (live) and the Berlin debut of his AV show. 5) The rest of the bang-on lineup: Barker & Baumecker, Object, Ame, Jus-Ed and Waze & Odyssey. Tonight will be full of variety and feel good vibes – if nothing else, jump on board that.

CHESTERS KREUZBERG – Everyone loves it! Everyone is going!

Invader Music – the London/Manchester/Rotterdam label and party people – are taking their thing to the German capital and throwing a do at Chesters Kreuzberg this eve. Coming with them are Eric Volta (Dirty Bird), Queenie (Greenmoney Recordings), Madam X (BBC1Extra), Jacksun Fear (Invader Music LDN) and friends, with all signs pointing towards a combo of house, garage and other lashings of the better UK club sounds. All on the rise, this should be a great chance to check out some emerging UK artists and mix up your usual wochenende m.o.

MYXA CAFE – Bron loves it! Lucy probably loves it, but doesn’t know it yet.

If a chilled, wholesome night of beautiful folksy vibes is your thing, we probably haven’t been much help to you so far. Tonight, we try to redeem ourselves. Fresh out of Sydney via a busking tour of Europe, Jackson Dyer is (from my brief aural/visual introduction last weekend) a bit of a dreamboat with an insanely captivating voice. The same part of me that can get around Ben Howard and Matt Corby (what box?), likes Jackson’s sound a lot. There’s no disco, no get low grind, and that’s more than OK. Embrace the chill.

PRINCE CHARLES – Everyone loves it! Lucy is going!

The delicious’ness continues at Prince Charles. Tonight tonight tonight you will find two players, tweaking on your sexy heart strings. Modig and SOHN. Modig is new to us over here but it feels a bit like a mixture of Apparat and Pantha du Prince, often dark but with lots of dreamy layers. SOHN we know, we love. Coming to us from Austria/ London (at the very SAME TIME!) he’s is a delicious creature that one day just appeared, and has never left (thankfully).

CLUB DER VISIONAIRE – Bron loves it! Everyone is going! (Lucy’s doesn’t know this yet)

The home of many a legendary party tale, CDV really comes into it’s own with the right crowd and finely selected sounds. Which screams of any club really, but this place is tiny – particularly the d floor – so selection here really counts. Saturday’s first edition of The Buff Dance with Onirik, Bakey Ustl and Preesh Mendez might just tap those well selected vibes. Onirik should likely fly the late hour minimal flag, and in the old house corner, Bakey (and Preesh). A semi mysterious name who drew attention with the addictive, out-of-nowhere A Tender Places in 2010, this might also be the first chance to see Bakey Ustl in a Berlin club. Get all over the exclusivity.

Still going? Just getting started? You know what to do. The Brangelina of techno (Ben & Nina), Levon Vincent, Marcel Dettmann, DJ Deep, Rødhåd, Chloe, Nick Höppner, Marcel Fengler. It’s not only the usual killer Klubnacht but also a Rex Club (Paris) Pbar takeover. Oui s’il vous plaît. You can’t go wrong.

About BRON

Bron writes on all things techno. If there's a party at the club, she is probably there - with fiddy and all the gang. She also likes gluten free bread (because she can't eat wheat) and wine.
