I have asked my mate Bron to give us a round-up of what’s going on in Berlin each week. Allowing us all to machen die Party. I’m not very techno-techno-techno – but Berlin is, and so is your mate Bron. Each event is either highlighted with a:
Bron loves it! – more electronic, than not.
Lucy loves it! – more indie boy band/ pop vibes/ not techno.
Everyone loves it! – 2.5 words: shit’s ACE.
We missed Wednesday – again. Fear not, next week we’re back on track, or we are just going to commit to a Thursday post…. Versprechen (70%). Here are your go-to’s for the week ahead.
**DISCLAIMER: these aren’t the only discos that are going on – they are just the ones that stand out.
AEROPHILIA (FRI – SUN)
Another one that made our Big Berlin Festival Guide, this wochenende sees the first edition of Aerophilia, a mostly house focussed affair on the outskirts of Berlin. Running for three days a in a big ugly/beautiful vast space around a lake, drawcards include Motor City Drum Ensemble, Amine Edge, Mano Le Tough, Move D, KiNK (live), Dapayk Solo (live), Daniel Bortz, Ada (live), Ewan Pearson, Tom Trago, Matthias Meyer, Christian Löffler (live) und so viel mehr. This could be your ticket if Nachtdigital is just that little bit too far away.
How many hipsters does it take to change a lightbulb? Don’t answer that. Get your finely manicured mo, weather-inappropriate beanie and most ironic tote down to Postbahnhof this Saturday for the return of Berlin’s Hipster Cup. Kicking of at midday the all day spectacle has everything the dedicated hipster could want – music, designers, art and natürlich, the competition itself which will determine the Hipster of the Year 2013. Just don’t look like you’re trying, yeah? All their info is in Deutsch, so using ol’ g translate, disciplines include VINYL-PLATTEN-DREHEN (vinyl disk rotating), GYM BAG KONFETTI-HÜRDENLAUF (gym bag confetti hurdles), HIPSTER-KONSUM-PRODUKTE-DER-PREIS-IST-HEIS (Hipster Consumer Products the Price is Hot – think Bob Barker or Larry Emdur depending on your homeland). Hit up their website to buy a ticket, receive your hipster kit and let the games begin! “Forget not bag irony, fires the HipsterTeams on and dance with us in the sun”
Summer on the Watergate deck, early morning, perhaps a cheeky sekt in hand. Whatever floats your boat, pairing a night of sweet selective house with sunrise on the Spree can be some pretty next level shit, the stuff Berlinergasms are made of. Your “I fucking love Berlin moment” could be on the cards this Sat with Wild Oats’ wunderkind Kyle Hall, Ghostly’s Lusine (live) and friends on the bill AND another scorcher on the forecast. Ignore the EasyJet set and enjoy the epic summer vibes.
I made my first venture to Urban Spree two weeks ago, and I’m wondering why I didn’t hit this playground up earlier. As far as something für alles goes, this Warschauer Strasse favourite is pretty onto it. A Biergarten, music venue, exhibitions, a creative lab, burger van, skate park and it seems there’s a store in there too. We’ll be returning this Sonntag to get deliciously dark, with Shameless/Limitless, Death # Disco + Noisekölln hosting the one-man emotional stirrer, Cold Cave. Sure it’s sunny outside but amongst all the rainbows and lollipops I could for sure go some of his deep croon and Robert Smith vibe. He’s joined by local new kids Pale Male and resident DJs.
TUESDAY/ WEDNESDAY (AND BEYOND)
Amongst all the current festemonium lies this smaller scale number, KRAKE, an annual celebration pitched as a challenge for all your senses. In straight talk – we’re taking that as a variety of interesting artists, in special spaces with clever visuals to boot. Tuesday sees the opening of this weeklong fest at Passionkirche, with Monolake and Cristian Vogel doing their thing live, Paroah Chromium and Prokyon crafting visuals. Wednesday sees the festival move to the Berghain Kantine for a traditional Killekil takeover, featuring live performances from Furfriend, Hard Ton and Anklepants and DJ sets from DJ Flush and DJ Wawash. Tickets available per night or for the whole fest.
