Fancy adding one or more festivals to your summer agenda however as unorganised as us and don’t want to travel far? Kein Stress! We’ve put together a cheeky last minute guide to the best of the Berlin (and not far beyond) festival circuit this remainder of summer and the gute Nachrichten is that most of these vibey extravaganzas aren’t sold out. Huhuuu!
So pack your day pack, party trainers, a tent if you want to make a weekend of it and few bottles of sekt for the cycle/walk/train – Berlin’s heaving in festival vibes this summer, our picks are below.
24 June | Urban Spree
Vibe: Scandinavian babes in crowns, with cocktails. There’s dancing around poles, there’s all the hottest freshest Nordic type music one could poke a stick. It’s the one day of the year I’m equally excited and depressed because: most daily in the one day of the year vs. all roads are leading to winter :-\
Essential: A flower crown. If you get there early, you can make your own.
NEW DANCE FANTASY SUMMER FESTIVAL
8 – 10 July | Griessmuehle
VIBE: Inner-city vibes at the festival with the best name this season. Travel (just) outside the ring for a 3-day, 3-stage non-stop affair at one of Berlin’s best garden clubs – Griessmühle. Special live sets, super geil DJs.
ESSENTIAL: Boozey brunch beforehand, during or after? Any excuse will do.
15 – 17 July | Ferropolis, Germany
Vibe: A haze of summer and friends. With music to please all tastes buds and a timetable that can take you from 2P – 12P the following day without much trouble – it’s always a weekend of mass debauchery and vibes. All the vibes.
Don’t miss: Andy Stott, black coffee, Helena Hauff, m83, Skepta, mano le tough, vril, peaches, virginia live, tiga, the black madonna
Essential: You bathers ! Get in and around the lake vibes. Also, water – for drinking.. The kiosk can get pretty hectic during the heat – and water is kind of an actually living essential, you know?
NATION OF GONDWANA
23 – 24 July | Grünefeld
Vibe: 40 hours of non-stop house & techno escapism, See-side lovin’ and a loyal following of a mostly DE crowd. The ravers that love this festival, LOVE this festival. Experience the love for yo self (potentially – see below).
Essential: A ticket – this one is sold out. But maybe keep an eye on the internet/ bookmark for next year.
29 – 31 July | Brüssow
Vibe: Curated by RY X & Frank Wiedemann, this one has a slightly more grown up, fam and friends feel with everything from techno to acoustic numbers. Taking place on a beautiful 100-year old farm complete with vibey barn and so much crisp country air. You’re basically in Poland here too so this gets bonus points.
Essential: not missing the last train back. No really, if you’re making a day trip of this take note of the last train and organise the taxi that will get you there. Reminder – you’re basically in Polen. Planning to stay overnight would be recommended.

YO ! SISSY
29 – 30 July | Musik & Frieden + Postbahnhof
Vibe: Berlin’s international queer music fest, 2 days, 2 venues and festival theme for 2016 of “Dance Together” (into it). They also do a good job of putting together party-starting line-ups.
Essential: Solid party Schuhe – with the line-up above and the overall theme, all signs point to this being a proper body mover.
BY THE LAKE
6 – 7 August | Weißensee
Vibe: Eclectic genre-hopping tunes from carefully curated live acts across two days and two locations around Weißsensee. Lakeside dancing in the sun or into the sunset, beach party vibes.
Don’t Miss: There are only 8 bands making up this festival, so why not catch all of them?! King Khan And The Shrines, The Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar (official), Mdou Moctar/official, LISS, Selvhenter, Cavern of Anti-Matter, Laid Back, Cold Specks
Essential: Swimsuit! You’re lakeside Leute!

12 – 14 August | Lichtenberg
Vibe: Rave by nacht, Bands by day in schöner than schön Brandenburg farmland. There’s a lake too, natürlich. Bonus extras: light installations, theater, films, reading, meditation – it’s the full deal.
Essential: Stamina and / or a tent.

PURE & CRAFTED
12 – 14 August | Postbahnhof
Vibe: Rock n Roll? Indie? I’m actually not quite sure. But I think – if you could turn Roamers (the cafe in Neukölln) into a festival, that would be Pure & Crafted – is it clear now? Not really.. hmm.
Bron note: if you’re a rock fan and feel deprived of guitar music here in the Haupstadt there’s something nice going on for you here. Also – (motor)bikes and babes!
Don’t miss: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds? I really don’t know, this really isn’t my style of music :-\
Bron’s notes: Mando Diao in the Swedish corner and Band of Skulls in the garage rock and/or Twilight fans corner. Also – motorbikes! (No, really – like bikes? This is the a good 50% feature of the festival).
Essential: Portable flask. Drinking at Berlin’s city festivals is always a pain in the arse kind of expensive. Sneaky BYO is the answer.
24 – 28 August | Kraftwerk
Vibe: Experimentally-leaning, often world-premiering live electronic performances and AV shows in one of Berlin’s most special multi-purpose locations the main hall of Berliner Kraftwerk, the behemoth former power-plant that houses Tresor & OHM. Cleverly and uniquely curated, expect to see artists we haven’t heard from in ages and/or trying something totally new.
Don’t Miss: securing a ticket – things will sell out. Line-up TBA
ESSENTIAL: A more chilled vibe. This isn’t your wasted in a field affair.

31 August – 2 September | Neukölln – lucy
Vibe: Moody. If you didn’t know already this one is an eclectic mix of music things.. And this year, we’ve ditched Berghain for the infinitely vague (and vast) locale of Neukölln :-\ Which is cool for literally every Australian living in Berlin.
Essential: A map (and bike)? This one is all over Neukölln, know your venues.
10 – 11 September | Treptower Park
Vibe: This one has all the big label vibes. More music than you could poke a stick, which is cool in a sense – because we were starting to feel a bit same same with all these festivals and their rotating rosters.
Essential: printed out lineup/ schedule time. Phone lines are always bananas jammed for these city festivals – don’t rely on the app or your battery. (Sorry, Lollapalloza Festival App Team)
