Lucy vs. America

Starting March 1 – I will be packing up my belongings and heading for New York via SXSW and the southern parts of America. This is what happened along the way.

Kilometers vs. Miles

I’ll tell you what cements that America is slightly more backwards than any other country – the fact that they use miles over kilometers. Shit that makes no sense – that. I didn’t really used to have a problem with it > but now, midway through this road trip it is effecting me.

Firstly – why would you go against the grain? I mean the rest of the WORLD uses kilometers. You arseholes. I now have to start thinking in a system that doesn’t even get used, because.. I mean I don’t even know why it makes sense to stay with the miles system.. It’s like old people purposefully not learning how to use a computer. Shit’s not going away > get a handle on it.

The second thing about miles is one mile is long. And that just sucks. 25 miles feels like it should take ~15 minutes because that is what I am used to with kilometers. But when it’s “only” 25 miles to your next stop – that feels like an eternity, because I (slash we) are thinking in kilometers – the distance where everything makes sense. Why torture yourselves with these small numbers that take forever? I have zero sense of achievement when I manage a 450 mile day, BUT if you told me it was a 725 kilometer day – I’d actually be pretty amp’ed with my efforts.

Do you see how you are bringing us all down? I mean – does this even make sense? I’m not sure who calls the shots with getting it switched over – but I’ll write the letter.

America – you need to get into 2012. Yesterday.

So Mereki and I decided to check in, I’m a bit locked into the house I am staying at in New Orleans so it seemed appropriate. We spoke with Bruce/ Marie from Freedom Fry. Something for nothing – they are the cutest people on the planet earth.

If for no other reason you should watch this because:

  1. it’s a multicultural sandwich (Australian, French, American)
  2. Marie says some French words, which will make your insides melt

Get at it.

So – we have had terrible internet. Not even going to lie – it is the pits. I hate saying shit like that because it’s such first world problems, but it makes my life of posting sort of like the hardest shit, ever.

Once again, I got bored in the car – and made a video.

Enjoy

So we are now on the normal train. Well less normal than normal in the sense that I am pretty much in a new location daily. But more normal than the last two weeks were we were driving 8 hour days and then running all over Austin for SX. It’s been sort of wild and I’m sort of glad to not be moving {slash} just be slow and easy.

CSLSX has a video out for their song Aeromancer (ft. Mountain Man) and I’m sort of majorly digging it. Give it a listen, give it a watch. it’s kind of yummy.

Leaving a stormy/ tornado’y Dallas today for Tyler Texas. If you know what is up round those parts > hola.

Please

Music – Liking mostly Indie artists is actually sort of annoying, because they only ever release EP’s > which means like 5 songs per release. Which means that you need to think about the music all the time.. Thinking is not what I want on holidays. Ever.

Time change  - driving across the country is kind of a mind fuck with time zones. I mean you wouldn’t normally think about this as you just get on a plane – turn your phone back on, and TA-DAAAA you are in the right timezone. Thank you Apple product/ the internet. However when you are travelling across the US by car and you go through States like Arizona > it kind of gets at you. Arizona sometimes recognises the timezones, then sometimes doesn’t – THEN goes into daylight savings mode > killer. And then when you are driving and you plan out your day with activities, and a time zone hits > actual disaster.

Colorado city stinks – It’s weird, I’m kind of weirdly open minded to polygamist, I think it’s because I like Big Love and they are cool. However I drove through Colorado City which is a major polygamist comune and that place stinks. Like seeping through the car stinks, like – nothing I have ever smelt before stinks. this is just a notion, and I might be wrong > but perhaps if that shit smelt better, there would be a more positive association with Polygamists, and then perhaps we could all get along?

Roadtrip snacks – I have worked out if you eat oranges and walnuts (at the same time) it tastes like cake. You’re welcome.

So a few days ago we made it to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon > sort of amazing. Like, shit’s way vast. Sounds stupid, but until you actually make it there you have no idea.. At all.

I did a really quick video. I’m sort of into the video’s > feels efficient, especially when we are doing big drives and I get to the hotels we are staying at and just want to go to sleep. I’m obviously the worst.

Off to Austin tomorrow, and then straight to a bar/ show/ free event. PUMPED.

Watch, enjoy, and come back soon X
